PS4 and Xbox One resolution / frame rate discussion

Recommended Posts

I think the difference is that hardcore gamers are a hell of a lot less patient with frame drops and pop-ins. Everyone will notice it; having the framerate crash into single digits is pretty hard not to notice, but some players might just shrug and play on.

Anything under 20 is really easy to notice even if it is constant fps. Between 30 and 60 it's harder but if there's lot of variation from 30 to 60 and 60 to 30 still very easy to notice. Personally i stop noticing it when the framerate variate from 46+ to 60. At this point it feels smooth enough. Not as smooth as constant 60 but it's smooth. I don't mind fps dropping in the 20ies in some rare occasions. Like in wow my fps was around 25-30 in big cities but over 50 everywhere else and a constant 60 in raids, dongeons and bgs. I did not mind the 20 in big cities there was no action anyway.

I hate pop-ins and the pop-ins of The Witcher 3 on console are very very evident.

I started noticing some really far out on the second map.  If it takes that much effort to notice it I'm still not seeing a problem.

If anything would've drove me to the PC version had I thought about it it's load times.  My SSD would be much better than this 500GB.  My 2TB external is at least also better than the 500GB.

I think the next patch is going to lock the game to 30 fps atleast in the X1 version not sure about PS4.

I don't know if that would really work with their dynamic scaling thing they were so proud of.

It will be PC, but console gamers, Xbox One owners specifically can believe it for consoles if they want to end up disappointed

Isn't that for PC though ? as the Xbox DX is already fairly bare metal and won't get quite the same benefits.

its an xbox one thread in the xbox section, and hes answering questions about dx12 on xbox one.

Let's roll a hypothetical. Say Sony were to emulate in some way the main benefits of DX12 on their machine. Well, we'd see a good improvement as our engine loves it.

Why would they reply in an Xbox thread about the Xbox version of the game about the Xbox DX12 with a comment about a PC benefit?

He was talking Xbox, which other devs have claimed to see upwards of 50% improvements.

Talk about taking things out of context.

But why listen to a bunch of developers when you can be a back seat developer and know more than them ;)

E3 should be exciting Xbox.

DX12 will add 7% in their patch. 30-40 was for PC. So with the upcoming patch, the X1 version is getting almost a 7% improvement, then followed by a DX12 patch for another 7% improvement. 14% total performance improvement on the X1 coming it seems.

So nowhere near 30 or 40 percent.

Shock horror. Hold the press.

True. But the good news is there is improvement. I will take the 14-15% patch improvements for the X1 version of Project CARS, that is for sure. Who wouldn't.

Wasn't a dig at all. I agree, it could do with a boost. Most games could regardless of platform.

I just find it funny that people are hanging all their hopes on Dx12 being the saviour of the Xbox one.

X1 doesn't need a savior though. It's doing awesome. Outselling every Xbox before it, outselling the PS3 as well all in the same time frame. Games are nearly identical to competing games visually, and it has a killer lineup of games, exclusive and third party.

IMO, this is the best gen of gaming yet.

Saviour probably the wrong word. People hanging all their hope on Dx12 bringing the Xbox one closer to the level of PS4.

Understood. They are close enough as it is, I don't think anyone really cares anymore. Now, if we are talking Wii U, well then that is a lost cause. I wonder if NX will beat out the X1 and PS4. Granted, Nintendo has never been known for powerful systems, just great games. I am not a fan of Nintendo games personally, but I know they have widely popular games.

As expected. Good to see my opinion got flak for nothing. Yes I can read, but I also have a brain and it was clear boosts of that kind were not going to happen when no hardware components are replaced.

A performance gain of nearly 20% is pretty significant without any hardware changes, imo. It's not 30-40%, but that's still a significant amount.

5~7 + 7 is not even nearly 20. Let's just deal with real numbers and results, as this topic is for comparing actual end user results which are measured. Not what ifs as it's clear until DX12 proves itself on the One this will just start another the cloud is going to do debate... For whoever wants to you'd be better creating a dedicated DX12 topic in the One section, or just posting what devs say as individual topics.
