XOTIC PC deleting reviews

Recommended Posts

In November 2013, I purchased a Sager NP8235 from XOTIC PC. The machine is a beast of a laptop and runs everything I want it to. However, even after paying for the upgraded matte screen, I noticed there was excessive backlight bleed and a dead pixel. The laptop was promptly sent back for repair. Upon receiving the repaired unit, there was no dead pixel, but backlight bleed was even worse.

I don't have a picture of the original screen, but here's the one after being repaired. The background shown is pure black except for the text in the upper right. Pretty crummy for a $150 screen upgrade, eh?

I decided to warn others by writing a review on their site (ignore the rage-fueled typos :x) :

A few days ago, I came back to the site to see if anyone else wrote a review regarding the same issue. My review was removed! There are only six reviews on their site, but Google's cached version shows seven with mine included.

Seems like a really low thing for a business to do.

Has anyone else had any other shady experiences with XOTIC PC?

EDIT: I've reposted my review on XOTIC PC with additional comments on the XOTIC PC removing it.

Tell me where can I get a monitor or laptop with plasma or OLED screen?

You can build it, just don't try to fold it closed tho, as shards of broken glass can be tricky to remove from reproductive organs :p

I have the same question what does the finish of the screen have to do with light bleed?  Another question did you try turning down the brightness?

I don't see where OP has stated he thought matte screen will eradicate bleed. Personally, I very much prefer matte screen, too. Not sure if I'd call such an option high quality - in ads usually every little shyte is said to be of the utmost highest quality - but it is an upgrade nevertheless, much easier on the eyes, dust and smudges. However, this thing here has nothing to do with matte at all; I don't understand your fixation on it.

The thing is - it had a bad pixel and bad backlight bleed. They fixed one fault - changed the panel (or unstuck the pixel; perhaps it wasn't dead) - and completely ignored the other.

And I know it may happen - warranty repair and services cut like a razor into retailer's finances, because manufacturer or distributor often doesn't give an eff. So we cut corners. I should know, I have been forced to do so myself all times too many.

At any rate, deleting bad reviews is a complete crock-up in and of itself.

"I don't see where OP has stated he thought matte screen will eradicate bleed"

So how do you interpert this statement from the OP?

"However, even after paying for the upgraded matte screen, I noticed there was excessive backlight bleed and a dead pixel."

Clearly as worded this reads that the OP thinks that the upgraded matte screen should somehow diminish light bleed of say a non upgraded screen.

Which clearly has nothing to do with it..  So why was it even brought up..  The post should of been that I felt the expensive laptop I purchased has excessive light bleed

So I show these

15.6? FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Matte Type Sager Screen (SKU - SSC005)
    15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Sager Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (SKU - SSC009) ( + 50 )

While agree that if the user feels the product has "excessive" that is something to complain about - but ULTRA BRIGHT means what to the user??

Im with you removal of reviews is not good practice. Should of been answered by the mods, you can snipped out inappropriate info or words that are against rules, etc.. But out right delete of a bad review is not good practice I agree.

I just doubt OP is that sort of dense is all. Instead I had interpreted it as a question that I get often dealing with dead stuff. People ask if they can get a better one by paying the price difference. Regardless of answers to those questions both they and me expect that the provided replacement will not exhibit the problems they had. At least not exactly the same problems.

I mean, they changed panels twice. I reckon only the following possibilities:
* Laptop's mismanufactured - it's not possible to install any panel so that it doesn't flex and bleed. Then sentiment expressed in the review is fairly appropriate.
* Repair tech installed it carelessly, didn't check or didn't want to (or couldn't do anything about it, as we know it happens). Then sentiment expressed in the review is aimed at the wrong party, but is still true. But how does one find that out?
* Shyte panels, no matter the price. Then sentiment expressed in the review is, once again, appropriate.

If review hadn't been removed, arousing much suspicion, I'd say that at best retailer didn't have a choice. They know they're selling crud and have to wing it. I often have hard time to talk with people who insist it's the retailer's fault that their stuff wouldn't work when I know it really isn't. Well, usually isn't, nobody's completely honest these days, not in business. But if it is, it's usually the manufacturer or distributor who doesn't want to hear about any proper repairs, returns or compensations, so the retailer, the very bottom of the food chain, either gets shafted or gets shafted less.

what made you think a matte screen upgrade would reduce light bleed ?

Actually, both options for the laptop are matte. I opted for the pricier panel with 95% NTSC color gamut for the occasional image work I do. It was also assumed that a display capable of such color accuracy wouldn't have the bleeding it did, but that's not the case. Color accuracy is pointless when blacks look like trash...

But did you make any effort into turning down the brightness? Or are we ignoring some questions?

a Matte screen will by it's very nature increase lightbleed, though by different meants, combine it with an ultrabright screen... well yeah.

and unless you're out in the sunlight an ultrabright should probably be set to at most 50% brightness, probably much lower for an ultrabright, or it kills PQ anyway with no darks and "over exposed" brights, same issue as running dynamic contrast.

Hello,

Does the live site show 6 reviews without yours and the cached version 7 reviews with yours?

Because of one review "removed" you are saying they delete them?

Might have been a glitch or something
