macoman
Let's have a smart and open minded chatting here. I saw couple days ago that google acquired another small business tech company, don't remember the name but if you guys know just let me know. My memory in the morning is really corrupted :D. Well, i feel like google little by little is trying to control every aspect if you have an Android device. Fortunately I switched to Windows Phone, and the only thing i use it's YouTube. But seriously, not only if you have an Android device, but Google will like to be in our lives more deeply... like how we search, how we socialize... they also acquired an small AI tech company and I just wondering if they will try to invent some type of "skynet". They already have a drive self car, now they just need to invent a walk self humanoid to match it. What do you guys think? I am over reacting? Nick H. Supervisor Posted February 7, 2014 Supervisor Share Posted February 7, 2014 Google may be acquiring lots of businesses, but they are by no means the first company to use such a strategy. What separates Google from the picture above is that their main focus is information, which includes your information and mine. If you get worried by that and choose not to use Google then you can do so, but as the picture above points out - and as you yourself said, trying to stay away from a big company that has fingers in many pies can be difficult. theyarecomingforyou and snaphat (Myles Landwehr) 2 Share
techbeck
Google isnt the only company buying businesses like this .MS and Apple do the same thing and many others on the pic Nick H posted. And if anyone thinks one company is to much, then there are always alternatives.

I forgot to add that as well, about the massive information they can collect and probably share not only with ads but with the NSA as well. Google sometimes buy businesses not related to any product or services. Like that AI acquisition, are they trying to compete with IBM's Watson? also Google is feeling kind of monopolistic. They control almost 80% of the smartphone industry but they don't want to release any app in WP because they don't get alone with Microsoft. Samsung and o there OEMs controls the majority of the Android smartphone community. Google doesnt control much of anything other than the OS. And they are not forcing anyone to use Android. There was a time when Apple and BB were the most dominate. These things change. And there is no telling what Google is doing with these companies they are buying. Lot is not know with the X labs work.
Anibal P
You are overreacting like a lot of people are, I use Android and a lot of other Google products, that have only the little information I chose to give them, as a matter of fact, if you had my name and searched for it on Google you would likely not find me at all in the first page, should worry more about your government, they have much more information on you and the capability of doing real harm, Google just wants to show you ads
Skiver Veteran Posted February 7, 2014 Veteran Share Posted February 7, 2014 Yep, as others have pointed out, Google are not the only ones who do this sort of thing. Heck the company I work for is basically the same, since buying the company I worked for they have easily bought around 10 companies including about 4 different companies last year. Draconian Guppy
+1 This is really standard procedure for big companies, the only difference is google gets %1000 publicity on every single thing they do. I think in car business, Lamborgini is owned by ford Or was it Ferrari? Either way...

Draconian Guppy
Hello, Lamborgini is owned by Audi which is owned by Volkswagen. And also, for the record, Ferrari is owned by Fiat. Who owns Fiat? Answer Fiat and General Motors owns Fia http://researchmaniacs.com/Automobile/WhoOwns.html I don't remember where, but it basically boiled down that both Lamborginis and Ferraris where now, owned (share wise) by US automobile companies or was it the other way around? Neli1000
It's rather typical that Google doesn't like e.g. Microsoft because it's a competition. I think it is also the other way round ;)
krisu007
Don?t forget Amazon!!!!! Poor Standards for workers, deals with governments that freak out every tax payer (e.g. Germany) and they as well collect uncountable Data.... But this is worlds future, a small collection of global players and companies that will own a majority of the worldwide successful companies and businesses.... if no one cares. Not the future I really want to live in...
