GPS tracker inside a battery?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Ive thought about this some time because a thief can easly disable GPS and/or wifi/3G to render useless services like Find My iPhone and Andoid Device Manger.

Is there a battery with a built in GPS tracker that you can locate your phone? Sure, it will problably suck more battery life but I perfer it over those two services Ive mentioend above

don't those services activate GPS in case of a stolen device? I mean the theif has to use some form of connectivity and the IMEI number can be tracked by the carrier

No. I can only talk from Android POV but you go to a website and you can select (besides location) ring, lock or wipe. It can be stolen or not. It requires that the phone have GPS (for location) and some kind of data transmission (wifi/3G/etc) to issue commands such as ring/lock/erase.

What Im asking is not only OS dependent but you would install software on our PC only to track (essentially) the battery.

The battery would need a separate circuit board, processor, and wireless capabilities, because if it used the phone's resources it could probably be disabled too.

So your battery would need a phone inside it.

Except the apps re-enable it.  Just tested, turned my GPS off, and it turned back on when I asked for it remotely.

It wouldn't use the phone at all. That's why I mentioned (I think) it would not depend on a OS.

Now circuit board, processor, and wireless capabilities... https://www.google.com/search?q=smallest+gps+transmitter&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ei=diD5UvE3x4TJA6WDgYAB&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=632 I don't know. They are pretty small...

If no data reaches the phone, it cannot be reenabled.

If you consider the size of a tracking device you might attach to surveil a vehicle then its not likely to fit inside the battery compartment of a phone and would still require access to either the sim or a wifi connection as well as gps.......However I did read of a device that certain services are reputed to use on targeted mobiles that intercepts communications in a similar fashion to dual sim technology below. This would of course require the same sim to be used once stolen.

Edit I forgot to mention Kick starter has several innovative gps trackers like those designed for cycles that secrete behind the water bottle or in the handle bar stem or this for children and pets but as you see they are still relatively large
