Xbox Europe VP Chris Lewis retiring from the firm after 25 years

Thursday, 13th February 2014 16:19 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Xbox Europe vice president Chris Lewis has announced he will be retiring, after having spent the last 25 years with Microsoft in order to pursue his own business interests.

Lewis joined Microsoft in 1989 and had held various positions within the Xbox business since its inception.

Microsoft is now seeking a replacement.

?Since joining Microsoft as one of the first UK employees in 1989, Chris has made significant contributions across the partner, enterprise and retail businesses,? said CVP of Microsoft?s devices and studios marketing group Yusuf Mehdi.

?He has been a distinguished leader for our Xbox team in Europe ? overseeing the launch of the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Kinect and most recently Xbox One, and growing the business significantly across the region.

?Following that success, Chris has now chosen to retire from Microsoft and focus on his other business and personal interests. We wish Chris nothing but the best, and we thank him for everything he?s contributed to Xbox and Microsoft as a whole over the past 25 years.?

Thanks, MCV.

The Xbox staff need a shake up so good news.

I've said it many times but MS need to start investing in the online social sector.

What do you mean by online social sector?

Something like the PS Blog and more YouTube content. Check out Playstation Access for example, great series catered to the UK audience on YT. I even met Holly at Eurogamer last year, great girl.  Putting friendly faces behind PR and marketing has done wonders for Sony.

I'm not talking about the console OS/functionality.

Microsoft used to have stuff like that but they cancelled it all in 2012. Was called Inside Xbox, hosted by Andy Farrant and Dan Maher.

Dan went off to do his own thing and Andy started Outside Xbox (EuroGamer picked up). IX was great while it lasted though. People even petitioned to save it but MS wanted to kill it in favour of "new" content, but actually were just cost cutting. Caused a huge ruckas at the time (N)

Have to agree they need more social media presence in places like Twitter. The "big names" very rarely ever reply to gamers unless they win something. The PS guys definitely have more interaction, even Yosp as we all know answers Qs frequently. Getting a conversation or answer out of Major Nelson is like blood from a stone.

Chris Lewis was one of the good guys though, so a big loss IMO. Always enjoyed his interviews with EG.

I keep saying that if MS give Jeff R free reign he could work some magic, he did pretty much spearhead the PS Blog. It's even on YT if you look at the official PS channel it has more subscribers than MS and more content. Strange given that a lot of content on YT is made by Americans and viewed by Americans. America is MS' home turf.

MN and others on Twitter need to lighten up a bit as well, what makes yosp fun is lighthearted replies and not so much PR. I mean someone even tweeted him about getting his willy stuck in the PS4 drive or something and yosp just tweeted back shutup lol.

Ah ok, so you just meant PR or community engagement.

Yep, Sony is much better at that. I've really appreciated the way they go about interacting with the community.

Honestly, its probably too late for MS to right the ship anyway.

Not at all, Sony at the launch of the PS3 was just arrogance after arrogance and they have the same bosses now as they did then. You can change your image quite quickly if you become a bit more humble and laid back.

Ask Andy about his opinion on Jack Tretton. Used to hate him, warmed up to him a bit now.

That's true, but that took years of effort on Sony's part. MS doesn't have that long to turn things around.
