Rooting

In general you can, but when you do the OTA (Over the air) upgrade, it will unroot your phone as it basically does a replacement of system files that were rooted and probably removes the SU file as well.  In my experience, this always happens and then I need to re-root the device.

Ok thanks. How can I disable OTA upgrade then and is this a good idea?

Rooting have nothing to do with updating android, but if you unlocked your device you might not get any update. but there are so many methods to relock your device for stock update.

& yes, after getting update your need to root again.

How do I disable over the air upgrades then ?

Depends on the device. It will likely be in the Settings > About device area.

Here is an app that should be able to do it as long as ur rooted.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice

You can also long press on the OTA notification and go in to the settings to disable the notifications.  I forget the procedure but poke around.  OTAs will not install automatically so there is no worries about it being applied without your say so.
