Why am I downloading abnormally faster on some places?

Recommended Posts

See. This is something that is bugging me quite a lot, and can't google it because I don't know how.

I have a 4 Mbits connection, meaning that I usually grab 480 - 500 KB/s.

But why in the world (not that I'm complaining... BELIEVE ME) am I getting 2 - 4 MB/sec on downloading Titanfall via Origin?

I remember that my friend told me this same scenario happens on iTunes... but I never believed him.

It could be that Origin means Mbit/s instead of MB/s.

On your screenshot it would take around 24 minutes to finish if the speed was 3.79 MB/s, and 3 hours if the speed was 3.79 Mbit/s. To me, the latter one seems more accurate (closer to 1:50:41).

If the remaining time was calculated by using the whole elapsed time and downloaded data (which I don't think is the case), you would have been downloading at 0.79 MB/s on average.

^ agreed don't think the MB is correct - because the math doesn't work out.  Your 56% done with hour 50 minutes left, as stated above if you were downloading at 3.79MBps you would of been done long ago.  Even if you calc at 2MBps 12.38GB would take only about 103 minutes or so, less than 2 hours.

What does that show?  That just some game dialog giving what??  For all you know its really compressed data that its unzipping?

Why don't you open your performance manager - and see what the OS reports you downloading?
