posting in general GH as it sounds like it'll come to both but leaning to X1 first possibly.

In a recent interview with Gamereactor, Dean "Rocket" Hall has confirmed that he has had "extensive" discussions with Microsoft with regards to a console version of his hit zombie survival simulator, DayZ.

The likelihood of console version of DayZ has been long known, but when we asked whether it would be appearing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or both, Hall said: "We'd certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model. It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside."

When asked about next-gen features and how the the game would fit with the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft, Hall added: "I personally feel the new consoles have yet to prove themselves able to rival the PC experience, however I feel there is the potential from both."

"I've not personally had the opportunity to view the full details of the PS4 whereas I have had the opportunity to talk extensively with Microsoft. The next-gen consoles show very exciting promise. I'm hopeful that they can deliver on that. Am important part of that, from my perspective, is encouraging and supporting third-party creative development to bring the "edginess" of PC creative development into the console. I think if the role of Kinect/voice expands to where it is desired it could do some awesome things. I just think it's too early to say at this point."

DayZ seems pretty popular, so this would be good to see on next gen consoles.

I'm a bit tired of the whole zombie craze, but the gameplay elements of games like DayZ mix it up a little.

I have a feeling once DayZ ever reaches the point where it could be considered a 1.0 release, the sub-genre "MMO survival" or whatever you want to label it is going to have long evolved. Dean's progress has been a snails pace at best.

The next generation of consoles will probably be out by the time he ports it

That is true, but the times I have watched him take part in Twitch streams and the things he gets hung up on are ridiculous. He reminds me of George Broussard in many ways. He'll start on something new but never see it to completion because he thought of something else to add, and it just goes on and on. Just this week he was blabbering on about adding smoking but he's hung up on if it's "immoral" to include it  Like the game doesn't have enough issues to deal!

I'm not sure Sony or Microsoft would love the idea of an unfinished game on their consoles, mostly due to how patches are down via the consoles.. What are the updates for the PC version like? Do they push have smaller, more frequent updates or do large patches every now and then?

Well, Microsoft lets EA publish on their console.

I don't think we can blame Rocket's progress for the games massive development time.

Blame the engine. It is an absolute mess.

Yeah, the arma engine is just awful, awful, awful, awful.

Its just so incredibly buggy and janky, performance is poor, and its handling of mouse input is the worst I've ever seen. Has this bizarre forced mouse acceleration that drives me insane.

The game is early access at the moment. So patches are frequent.

Obviously the game won't be released on the consoles until it is finished and stable.

Yeah the mouse acceleration is an absolute pain. You have to fiddle with the config file just get it to behave kind of sensibly.

The main thing that annoys me with DayZ are the zeds. He keeps saying they have new animations and AI but we never see it.

They feel exactly like they did in the mod, other than the fact you can no run away and they stop chasing you.

The melee combat is terrible too.

Dean Hall says some "really interesting" features are coming to the platform, but he's not allowed to discuss them yet.

If comments from DayZ creator Dean Hall are anything to go by, it sounds like Microsoft is cooking up some exciting new features for the Xbox One. After meeting with Microsoft to discuss a console version of DayZ, Hall said he got to see some "really interesting" features coming to the platform, though he's not allowed to discuss them just yet.

"I have nothing against consoles, and there's some really interesting and exciting things happening. That was one of the cool things about meeting with Microsoft," Hall told Eurogamer. "There were definitely some things they said that I'm not allowed to talk about that I was like, 'Wow! That's interesting. Why don't you tell people that?' But I guess they want to make sure everything all goes together and that."

Wow, I can't wait to see what else is in store. When they say it's in the software and services, they mean it!
