Samsung Vibrant Clockworkmod

Recommended Posts

Decided to fool around with CM11 KK on my old T-Mobile Vibrant (Samsung Galaxy S1) to see how it performs.  Problem is, I have an old recovery and cannot seem to find the latest CWM that will install.  I downloaded the ZIP here but the current recovery will not flash.

https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager

ROM Manager doesnt seem to want to update the recovery for some reason.  Anyway to manually update the recovery with the ZIP I DLed above?  Been a while since I did a manual install of recovery and been spoiled by apps like Flashify (also doesnt work)

Thanks

you try using the CM installer and after installing 10.2 manually flashing 11 or enabling dailies?

CM Installer says unsupported device even tho I DLed the ROM from CMs site.  So wanted to do a manual install and I can do so if I can update CWM recovery.

It's been practically impossible for me to get the latest TWRP on my OG Kindle fire also, just finally managed to get Gapps back on it and it's going to stay there, don't have the patience to do it anymore

Do not use rom manager to install cwm recovery on to the vibrant, too outdated and it has problems. If you want to run kk on the vibrant then use the vibrant aio tool:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509. If you're on android 2.1 or 2.2, flash to 2.3 gingerbread, from 2.3 you flash to 4.3.1 jellybean. After flashing to 4.3.1 you can easily flash to kk. I currently have a vibrant running kk 4.4.2 (C-Rom which is ported from the I9000 threads on xda). If  you have any questions feel free to ask.

Links are broken in the source you posted.  I am already on 4.0.4 JB.

Try using Recovery Tools - Flasher from the Play Store.

Doesnt appear to be working.  Doesnt give me an error...but recovery didnt update

Seems the CM ROM I downloaded is the wrong ROM.  Which is odd since the model checked out on CMs site.  Trying a different ROM to see if that works but would still like to be able to update the recovery.

Oh! If you're on 4.0.4 ICS then just reboot to recovery and flash to a custom 4.3.1 jb rom and then flash to 4.4 kk I would recommend that you flash fluid kernel first before flashing to a 4.4 kk to ensure that kk installs correctly.

I was able to download another 4.4 ROM and then apply the CM11 ROM and that worked.  Thanks for the suggestion tho.  WIll keep it in mind if I have any more problems.  I did apply the kernel tho.  Setting up everything now.  So far, so good.

You should try out neat kernel, it's got a bigger system ram size of 417 mb the fluid kernel is 360is mb of system ram.

Yea, I got that downloaded already.   Saw it earlier.  Just settings up everything and performing backups before I do much else.  So far so good.  KK runs pretty damn good on the S1

If you want to make it more challenging, try porting roms from i9000 on to the vibrant. There's a guide on how to do so. I've ported 3 roms from the i9000 thread on my own because the roms offered on the vibrant didn't suit my needs, so yeah.

My S1 is basically an MP3 player now.  It was running a JB build but updated to KK for better performance.  I dont have any need for extras since it is not a daily driver and I am no longer on T-Mobile
