Windows 9 Concept - A Tablet/Desktop Metro Firefox

Recommended Posts

way too much window chrome - no need for outlines everywhere.

It's only for the top bar.

I just think Metro would really take off, if there wasn't Hidden UI and Horizontal Scrolling.

a few tips:

1. don't use tango icons

2. too much chrome

3. tabs are not distinguishable  - if you have many open, lets say all from youtube, it hard to tell which is which

4. spacing of the bookmarks in the bar are too close, they need a bigger font and more spacing

5. the bookmark bar can be a hidden UI element, eg move mouse to left screen edge etc to bring it up. make it optional to be hidden

6. so far the colour uses are white, orange, black etc. This doesnt conform to the principles of using monochrome iconography - so either black or white to contrast the colours

7. remove "bookmarks" header, find a better alternative way of displaying it.

8. elements do not having predefined spacing or naturally fit togther well. the designs feels too squased and slap stick. Need more appropriate spacing.

Sorry,

But it looks hideous, and doesn't pick up on any of the touch design rules set by MS for the MUI.

Me personally thinks a Windowed MUI app is just plain stupid, and I really hope MS will never go into this.

If so, please make it an option so I can turn if off immediately!!!!

Consider running windowed MUI apps on your tablet. Stupid, just stupid....

Adjust people, we have been doing so for the last couple of million years. Or 6000 years, depending on your look of life ;-)

I have to say, those reasons seem so trivial and personalized.

1. I like the tango icons.

2. Too much chrome? If there is a button that provides a function, how is it too much chrome?

3. Tabs are indistinguishable? How so? There is an icon there. And I don't see many people opening up ten tabs of YouTube all at once. Since you can only watch one video at a time and there are bookmarks.

4. Even though I think that is the perfect size, the option to change the font should be available regardless of platform.

5. It could be, but I hate with a passion all the Hidden UI in Metro. If there is a button, Okay, but all the off screen swipes I find annoying. Comparing a button to a off screen swipe to bring up UI, the button provides a visual cue.

6. Yes, I did choose the colors associated with Firefox and the desktop.

7. And why should I do that?

8. What a coincidence they don't, who could ever use a program with a top bar that's properly sectioned off and uses icons to denote functionality. Oh wait... wait, wait, wait, that's every program, isn't it? My bad.

You say "stupid" a lot. It seems like you spent more time in this message saying something derogatory than saying something informative.

My thought was if this was the tablet iteration of windows that the desktop minimize, maximize, and close buttons would be removed, since there would a task manager that would function different than the desktop one for closing apps.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too busy for a Metro concept. It also doesn't follow any known design or usability guidelines. Just what kind of look are you going for here?

Food for thought: and WHERE would a user click to drag that window around?

The desktop pic is barely any different than the version of Firefox I use. The empty space around the caption buttons is what I use to move the window around.

A Tablet/Desktop app that could easily be fitted to both interfaces. While, avoiding the elements of Metro I don't like (Hidden UI, Horizontal Scrolling, And Empty Space.)

Really don't like it. Visually there's far too much going on and it's all very boxy.

Action Buttons, The Address Bar, Tabs, And Captions Buttons? That's too much? Would it be easier just to swipe everything on screen and then choose one of the aforementioned functions because it seems like that would be more to do. I made this for functionality first and style second. Functionality, I think, should come first.

Then it's not a Windows 9 concept, just a (very bad) Windows 7 customization. Sorry.

There's too much happening, visually. There's a reason tablets apps are not like this.

I think we are just polar opposites with this. I want more Desktop in the metro environment and You want more Metro in the desktop environment.

Capitalization, it's Awesome!

Good luck using that on a tablet :D

I know... who would use buttons to perform actions on tablets? LOL. Good stuff, Good Stuff.

I would switch to Linux instantly... sorry

You're on a Windows forum with the banner "Windows 8 Was Not My Idea." I doubt you'd go to Linux.

Some thoughts:
How do you know which of those Youtube tabs are what?
What would it look like if I had 20+ tabs open? how would I go through all those tabs?
As someone earlier mentioned, how would I move the window around comfortably?

As someone who from time to time actually uses the desktop with touch (on my surface rt), how would I with fingers move that window around? How about resize it?

Where do I press if I want a new tab?

That is unusable for real people :\
