Looking for Gaming/Photo editing laptop

So based on currents events, i've been faced with the needs of having something mobile for gaming/photo editing (majorly this)

 

I've narrowed my search down to these two:

So far I've look at alienware, falcon northwest, maingear, originPC  (Man I thought alienware was overpriced until I saw falcon northwest... jesus christ...).  But definitely ASUS offer best bang per buck.

 

Anyway, I do some moderate photo editing in lightroom and photoshop, play the games every now and then ( Battlefield, Streetfighter, fifa, etc..).

 

 

So before I made my final choice, maybe neowin has some insight?

You can get your own 256GB SSD for half that cost. Get the cheaper one and get your own SSD if you need it.

It also has a better graphics card, first one has GTX665 and second one 770, which are miles apart too.

Forgot a few letters there. You said a 665, that's a 765, theres really little difference between a 765 and 770...

After searching multiple brands, Clevo, Saeger, Toshiba, Alienware, Falcon northest, Xotic, OriginPC. Asus definitely offers the best warranty. (bumpage)

What are the screen resolutions?  Since you say you want something that can do photo editing, I'd try and find the highest quality screen... " Gaming" laptops can be typically ~720p (which is a crap resolution for photos).  Also "gaming" laptops tend not to support long battery life (if that is important to you).

I have not had Asus laptop before.

 

I have used Dell, Acer laptops these years... These laptops are great this time. No problems so far.

 

I have a 17" Dell laptop (primary), 3 15" Acer laptops (travel, photography). 

 

I have an old laptop with windows that can run at high screen resolution like iMac.  I am keeping this.  heheh.

 

This laptop has gorilla glass 2. You wouldn't worry about screen gets damaged during traveling.

For the Lenovo: Display:15.6" HD LED Glossy with integrated camera (1366x768)

 

That's something I had not considered actually.

I have not had Asus laptop before.

 

I have used Dell, Acer laptops these years... These laptops are great this time. No problems so far.

as for custom made, all of even seem uber expensive when compared to pre-made (Falcon Northwest).

Yes.. I edit them on mine... no problem.. 

 

You can replace hdd with SSD ... and you will do fine with editing the photos...

 

Don't worry about exporting...   just exporting them and go outside or watch tv... then check back and see if they are finished.   If you can't wait that long, just export a few a time.

If its not listed, I wouldnt recommend it personally....there has to be a laptop there that feeds your needs and budget :) Ask. Im sure if you describe what you need, you will get some answers.

I got my laptop from there and 5 years later it still fits all my needs for the laptop I wanted and has been pretty future proof as well.

That sounds like more of a RAM issue than a HDD one...

Well, it seems the site is a bit outdated, they don't have the latest (2013 versions) of the Toshiba Qosmio, Alienware, lenovo ones i've looked so far.

Ask their forums better :) User reviews are usually more up to date than page reviews (happens on Neowin too)

Guppy, you can look around on Acer or Dell websites and see what you find.

 

They have 15 or bigger laptops with the features you like.

Thanks I have looked at dell, ended up looking at alienware (dell).

 

Acer on the other hand is a bit out of date with their processors:
