Girl Scouts sell cookies at pot dispensaries

Recommended Posts

One San Francisco Girl Scout is proving to be a shrewd businesswoman by making money off the munchies.

The Green Cross, a marijuana dispensary, posted photos to its Facebook page this week of 13-year-old Danielle Lei selling her cookies outside its doors.

According to her mother, after 45 minutes, Danielle had to call for backup cookies,   and within two hours she sold about 117 boxes.

Danielle's mom told KPIX that she thought this was a good opportunity to both show her daughter different areas of their city and to have a mature conversation about drugs.

"[The girls] learn that [users are] not drugged out," her mother told the East Bay Express. "Many have serious needs and are just a little different. And they get hungry after."

This might be a lesson about pot, but Danielle's marijuana money move is also getting her praise as brilliant, savvy and even genius.

KPIX spoke with the Girl Scouts of Northern California, and they're fine with where Danielle set up her stand.

Smart cookie indeed! :D

Darn right.

Consider that a popular spot for Girl Scouts to sell their wares is just outside grocery stores - despite the said stores also selling cookies.  Yet the Girl Scout cookies sell, and in not-small numbers.

It's called "competition" for a reason - the Scouts have cookie options the big chains don't.  (As good as Nabisco's cookies are, competing Girl Scout cookies - Samoas, Trefoils, etc. - win on a TASTE basis.  And they aren't THAT much more expensive.)

Clever girl. I also like the parent's reasoning, showing the girls that just because someone smokes pot doesn't mean to say that they should be avoided. With it becoming more acceptable in the world, I think more emphasis needs to be placed on that idea. If my understanding is correct, girl scout cookies are apparently more addictive anyway. ;)
