Xbox One Update: March 2014

Recommended Posts

Again, its no different then the old process (code vs website), so I'm not sure what you guys are upset about, but if it feels diffrent to you, then that is all that matters.

Wrong.

After I signed up, I got a message that says 'You are in. Check for the beta update in a few days.' ... something like that... Then on Xbox 360, I turned it on and got the message. I gave Xbox my console serial number in order to receive the update.

Right, you signed up and then you were selected to be part of the beta. Not everyone got immediate access to the beta. I guess it was MS' way of slowly growing the number of users over a period of time.

Here, your submitting a code and then MS selects you to be in the beta at some point.

Your certainly right that before we had to give them a bunch of details such as our console serial numbers. I guess now they dont need to gather that info from us, so they can just push out a general message to X1 users to see who wants to join.

If you prefer the old way, that's fine, I just didnt think it was a big deal.

The big difference here is that, from the screenshot posted before, this doesn't sound like it's just for the March update but also for future ones until you decide to leave it. This could be why the process has changed a bit this time around.

no invite on my X1, and while glad folks here seem to like it, not sure what the point is? I mean is this like with AMD now where they have beta drivers for months before actually releasing an official driver...I don't really get the point. Get the community involved in beta testing features? OK, maybe that's the idea, but not something i'm keen on.

I went ahead and signed up. About a day later I was accepted as a beta tester. I suspect there shouldn't be any major issues for my wife and daughters when they're using the One for movies on Netflix or disc.

Well the preview video looked very nice. I can't complain about any of the changes they are making. The improved friend experience is a big deal. Looks like a nice series of UI updates to add functionality.

Its nice to see them leverage the context sensitive menu that you get when you hit the menu button for more options that make sense and add convenience.

I am stuck at 'Loading. Please wait...'

What to do?

Xbox forums is slow ... is taking forever to load it up.

I had the same problem, quit out of the app and load it again, it worked for me.

Please tell me you don't have to have the new Party app pinned at all times to communicate....

It does not have to be snapped. You can unsnap and be in full screen.

I don't think it has to be pinned.

Have they changed it so I can play Xbox Music in the background without keeping it pinned?

I don't think the beta update has been pushed out yet.  People are talking about the invitation which is an app.

When it does go out I don't think you can talk about it anyways? Isn't there going to be a NDA? Not that that's really stopped anyone before.

I need to check when I get home but I am hearing the 50hz TV judder issue is now fixed for UK folk, hopefully it doesn't break game playing.

That would be awesome! TV doesn't flow through the one at the moment because the Mrs kept on complaining about the juddering (as she called it), it was quite annoying.

This will make things a lot easier for me. Also I hope they get on board with UK services soon (virgin/sky etc.) so that the guide works as it should!

So, has anyone installed it yet or no? I'm guessing those who get in can't talk about details?

Its been on mine for a day. Haven't been able to test parties due to me the only one in my friendship group to have the update. I'm pretty much segregated until March. Only found that out after accepting the invite.

Overall though, the update is great. Friends app is way easier to use, faster. Love the little touch of the scrolling information on the profile card. Like, friends online, favorites online, friends broadcasting. The ability to change the interval of volume up/down is awesome as well.

Feels like they've really listened to what the community have said.
