Xbox One Update: March 2014

Recommended Posts

Got the update.. 2 things..  First off where can I find the option to custom set how the volume works with Kinect? I want to set my sound to go up by 5 and not 2-3 like default.. They said that was added.

Also is it just me or did the battery meter that was just added in the February update go away? I am not seeing it by the clock anymore?

For the volume control, you go to:

Settings/TV & OneGuide/Troubleshooting/Audio

From there it is a drop down menu for selecting the number.

Has anyone else noticed if the 'Resume games quickly' option is now checked for those that had previously unchecked it?

The best part of the update for me is that the UI seems more fluid  It's still not where it should be, IMO, but an improvement.

Once I sorted out everything being blurry, you know that was the first thing I checked LOL out of beta and checked off by default.

I am also going to give using the TV through the One another shot since I am reading some comments about it being improved upon. Will try it out this weekend.

Be sure to change your audio output to bitstream ... finally the dts/dolby light turn on my receiver... after going through that with my ps3 and dts-ma I just couldnt do it again..

??? Did your PS3 not do DTS for some reason?

And I already have bitstream chosen for audio, would I have to choose it again for the TV?

The UI moves much more fluid for me as well... Though for some reason (for me at least) Xbox On has to be repeated several times for it to finally turn on.  I'm to a point where I just push the button on the controller...

I've read elsewhere that the listening distance of the mic is cut quite a bit when the system is in standby.  It doesn't hear that command for me at all unless I'm within a few feet of Kinect, so I don't bother. I hope they fix it, but it's not a huge deal.

Hmmm, I still have my phat in my living room and I have seen the blue light for as long as I can remember on BluRays. Perhaps it is not this DTS-MA you are speaking of though, I honestly never heard about it until now...

And yeah pretty sure it is already checked off but if it is not will go ahead and do that.

Does anyone know if there is a way to reset all TV related settings on the One and start over?

I have not used the TV option since late December and would rather just start from scratch on it all, even though no components have changed.

The plus side to using the TV option is I free up an HDMI in on my receiver so my WiiU can go back to its own input without being on a switch, and I can hook up my OUYA again that I never used anyway to the switch the WiiU is currently on.

Yes you can reset TV settings ... it is located under the TV/OneGuide in the settings. Then choose Troubleshooting

Keep in mind that most of the improvements to TV are related to those outside the US that use the 50hz setting. I'm not sure what, if anything, was changed for US TV users.

Have you run through the 'didnt hear me' troubleshooting option since the update?

Along with what was already mentioned, if you go to TV & OneGuide/Devices, you can manually remove all the devices you have added.

Thanks. I did not know this.

I am actually going to keep things as they are then. Just made things to complicated for my wife and more important my parents. They come over quite often to house sit and take care of my dog, so especially for them I have to K.I.S.S. Again thanks, I thought improvements were made for everyone.

Wired or wireless?

They are wired to the controller. Not to the back of the TV. They came with the headset adapter which came out today as well for $24.99. So you can use the adapter with other headsets as well, like we have a nice pair of Turtlebeach's we couldn't use with the xbox one. Now we can with the adapter.

I've run that thing a million times...  Maybe I'll give it another go this weekend...  Funny thing is, once in the OS, Kinect hears me perfectly fine...

Only "Xbox On" giving me trouble....  Even Xbox Turn Off, works without issue...

Still waiting for a DLNA player... The only reason I keep my 360 around is so that I don't have to pull out my phone to "PlayTo" the One, which rarely works anyway.

I hear you on that...

I keep my iPad near by for this as well... I RDP into my PC from my iPad, the Right Click and Play To as well...  drives me nuts...  If Microsoft can truly nail some type of DLNA (Lets not leave Media Center Out  :D ) integration,  they will have made a TON of people happy... And maybe even sell a few extra consoles along the way to Video/Audiophiles...

There is no wireless version nor any 3rd party wireless headset released AFAIK.

Everyone had to wait on the adapter to come out first before they launched their wireless lines..

I wish someone could figure out why it works so poorly for some people and not for others.

I have yet to run into an issue using the command, but who knows what could be different that is cuasing that result.

Nice I did not know the headsets included the adapter. I may pick them up now that I know that is the case.

I think it is simply just a matter of the T in Turn that makes "Turn Off" vs "On" more recognized between the two words. It is a very distinctive sound in the language, meaning the T.

Thanks. I did not know this.

I forgot to add that I'm not saying you should not try it when you have a chance just to test it out. I dont know what problems you were having with it before, but this update did include changes that they did not list specifically (including chances to how devices are handled in the TV settings), so it could include something small that improves your experience.

update: Loving the headset. They sound REALLY good. Nice bass response and everything. I actually tested them out on my iPhone 5s and they sounded great. I also used the mic to make a phone call. I looked like I was part of some tech support with the headset and mic talking to my wife.
