DocM
In response to Chief Craig's Operation Restore Order, which has been hitting the drug gangs HARD with wide area raids involving hundreds of officers; Detroit, County, State and Federal. Something tells me Chief Craig is not going to back down in today's press conference. Not his style. Not even close. A bulldog. http://www.wxyz.com/news/region/detroit/fbi-investigating-death-threat-against-detroit-police-chief FBI investigating death threat against Detroit Police Chief James Craig Threat was received on Friday DETROIT (WXYZ) - The FBI is investigating a death threat sent to Detroit Police Chief James Craig. Stokkolm
If he's getting death threats from drug lords he must be doing something right. I'm starting to like this guy more and more. I also love that he was open-minded enough to change his mind about gun grabbing. Gerowen, timster, McKay and 2 others 5 Share
DocM
Yeah, he's also reorganizing the department bigtime to get more cops in patrol, and weeding out commanders that are ineffective or "ethically challenged." Looking like he's a keeper. In other news: one recent evening a woman came home to find an armed intruder exiting her houses back door. Hubby was not home yet, and she had a concealed carry permit. Bad guy drew on her and the party started; he shot once and missed, she shot 7 times and didn't. Scratch one dumbass. psmoked, Gerowen, SharpGreen and 3 others 6 Share
Xerino
Oh please, he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't receive death threats often, means he is getting to them, street gangs are just a bunch of cowards anyways. If OCP would've instituted the "Robocop" program they wouldn't have this issue... FloatingFatMan, psmoked, GotBored and 1 other 4 Share
Gerowen
Good, that means he's doing his job. Places like Chicago and Detroit seem like a whole other world compared to most of the rest of the U.S., it's like stepping through a portal into a Mad Max movie or something. psmoked 1 Share
DocM
No comment necessary.... http://m.detnews.com/topstories/article?a=2014302230024&f=1207 Detroit police chief reacts to death threat: 'We're not backing off' Detroit -- Police Chief James Craig has a message for the person who sent him a death threat over social media: "We will find you. We're not backing off." During a news conference Sunday at Detroit Police headquarters, Craig described the person who sent the message Friday, along with a photo of a handgun, as a "coward and a member of a gang and or criminal narcotics network." Then he thanked him. "I want to thank him because this reinforces what we do," he said. "I'm the people's police chief. The people want me to do this." Craig said the FBI, Michigan State Police, Detroit Crime Commission, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Attorney's office are working together on the threat. "This is not a Third World country," he said. "You can't just threaten a police chief. This is America. This is the city of Detroit. We've got some of the best police professionals anywhere in the world. When you threaten the chief, you threaten all of the officers." Since he took office in July, Craig said the police department has conducted, on average, about 35 narcotics raids a week. Last week, a raid involved nearly 400 officers and according to 3rd Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson, was potentially the largest in department history. "It was named Operation Eye to Eye, after a Pulitzer prize-winning story written by Angelo Henderson," said Johnson. Henderson, who worked at the Wall Street Journal and the Detroit News before going into the ministry and hosting a talk show on WCHB-AM, died Feb. 15 at age 51. Craig said it should not profit a drug dealer to continue doing business in the city. "A drug dealer running a business has to do a cost/benefit analysis," he said. "At some point, he'll figure the analysis would not be cost-effective to do business here." He said he is not afraid and will not increase security. "The one word to describe how I feel is anger," he said. Craig said he's receiving updates on the investigation every two hours. "This narcotics network extends beyond the city of Detroit, and I've already reached out to my colleagues in Los Angeles," he said. Craig said the threat was worded in street slang: "We need to clap him out." "Certainly, that was meant for me," said Craig. "His group would say we're disrupting their revenue stream. But we're not just going to disrupt it. We're going to dismantle it." He reiterated the message: "You're not welcome in Detroit." >
DocM
That was quick! http://m.detnews.com/topstories/article?a=2014302250099&f=1207 Five arrested in connection with death threat on Detroit Police chief Detroit -- Five people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a death threat against Detroit Police Chief James Craig, police officials said. At least one of the suspects is from California, Detroit Police 3rd Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said. "It looks like those arrested were people who promoted or facilitated the communication of the threat," Johnson said. It was unclear whether the man who actually made the threat is among those arrested. "We believe there's an LA connection to this," Johnson said. After the threat was uncovered Friday on a social media site, Craig told The Detroit News he believed it was made because drug dealers were upset that police have ramped up their drug raids. Craig said the FBI, the Michigan State Police and the Detroit Crime Commission investigated the threat, which was deemed credible. "We're raiding, on average, 35 dope houses a week, and we've done five large-scale sweeps, and it's putting a serious crimp in the dope dealers' money," Craig told The News Saturday. "What I take from this is, what we're doing is working. This guy actually did me a favor, because he let me know we're making a difference by going after these dope dealers." Craig said it's the first time in more than 30 years in law enforcement that his life has been been seriously threatened.
CosmicPoop
Is there really any hope for this city? I really like to think so, and hopefully this dude is a step in the right direction I just feel like they have so far to climb...
exotoxic
I'm surprised he only received 1, and from the internet too. Unless he is guarded 24/7 i would expect him to "disappear" or be found dead in the not too distant future.

Must be almost $4B of it. The Wayne State Univ. TechTown development is a big part, and many downtown buildings aregetting major rehabs. The rehabbed Art Deco and Grand Dame style theaters are gorgeous. The Fox is stunning. The troubles were corruption in City Hall (getting fixed by the FBI etc.), 70,000 bligjted buildings (getting demo'ed), the drug gangs (under major heat) and a poor tax base. The tax base gets fixed last as people start moving back in, which has started. The odds are still about 50/50 it'll recover, but with what he new Mayor and Chief Craig is doing are increasing those odds. Some of the great parts Fox Theater lobby Fox Theater Griswold building lobby Belle Isle (larger than NYC's Central Park; parks, boating, auto racing etc.) Ford Field (Lion's football, concerts, multi-purpose) Comerica Park (Tiger's baseball, concerts, multi-purpose)
