Hard Drive Help...Info

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I am looking to perform an upgrade on my laptop.  Reason for the upgrade, I have a lot installed and would like to try the upgrade first and see how it goes. If it doesnt work out, fine I will perform a clean install.

Attached is what I have for harddrives.  The ST1000 is my 1gb drive.  Yea, not the fastest drive but it does well for now.  My question is the SanDisk 8gb iSSD drive.  Not real familiar with these and just wondering what it is used for.  I have a Samsung Chronos Series 7 laptop.  Figured I should get more info incase a clean install is needed.

Probably used like on my Acer, it's used as a boot device to increase boot speeds

Been meaning to pop a real SSD in mine but haven't had the money yet

So its just an extra driver/software I need to install after Windows.  Just making sure I dont need to do anything during the install.

You shouldn't need to do anything with it. Just install the software for ExpressCache in Windows later.

That SSD is just for cache, usually it's not even possible to replace as it's limited in UEFI for the amount of GB used (also usually it's a mSATA interface, not the most common one). Just install the ExpressCache like snaphat said later when the upgrade is done.

Thing is, there were 2 correct answers.  z0phi3l and snaphat.

i disagree, mine and snaphat answers are the correct ones :) ; heck if speed matters then snaphat should get the correct answer since mine and his are very identical.
