Microsoft hints at 'Age of Mythology Extended Edition' coming to Steam
by John Callaham

Microsoft released a graphically revamped version of the classic 1999 game "Age of Empires II" on Steam in 2013, and later that year published an all new expansion for the real time strategy title, The Forgotten. Now it looks like Microsoft is teasing us with yet another revamp of an RTS game made by the now shut down Ensemble Studios.

The teaser was posted on a Twitch.TV developer stream for "Age of Empires II HD" and later posted on the game's official YouTube channel. The tease comes at the very end of the stream, which shows artwork and a logo for an "Age of Mythology Extended Edition," along with the Microsoft Studios and Steam logos.

It's likely that this means we will be getting word soon on a revamped version of Age of Mythology, which was first released in 2002 by Ensemble as its first 3D RTS game. Unlike the Age of Empires series, which gave players a chance to take control over real historical civilizations through the ages, "Age of Mythology" is decidedly based on fantasy and folklore from the major myths of those ancient races. An expansion for the game, "Age of Mythology: The Titans," was released in 2003.

Nice news. I hope they keep going with this and bring more games to Steam. I will not buy any Age of Empires games but will certainly buy Halo Wars or any other game in the Halo series.

I'm not a huge fan of any RTS. I normally avoid them, just aren't my cup of tea however AoM was the 1 I actually enjoyed. Feels odd in away to say I'm looking forward to an RTS but I'm really excited to give this a go!

Hopefully they don't do a half-assed job like with AoE.

I just want a new standalone Age of Empires again. Not that rubbish Online version! This is the 2nd of the old games they have re-released, proper milking the golden oldies!

First AoM I played was this one heh.  I like it well enough, but I still don't feel like I missed much.

what I dislike about these remakes is the fact that just updated textures and epenis (trophies, community rewards) are the only reason, the core of the game (eg. dumb AI) is never touched, such was the case with AoE2HD
