Boy, 8, helps other students pay off lunch accounts

An 8-year-old Michigan boy is warming hearts with his act of kindness for fellow students - by paying off their lunch accounts. Cayden Taipalus told WXYZ how he got the idea.

(WXYZ) - You hear a lot about bullying and other social problems in schools.

But it just takes one student to make a difference.

Today, we honor third grader Cayden Taipalus as Detroit 2020 Person of the Week. The 8-year-old is a student at Challenger Elementary in Howell.

Cayden has been collecting donations and taking bottles back to help pay off school lunch debt for some of the students at his elementary school.

Cayden first had the idea for the cause when he witnessed one of his friends get denied a hot lunch because he didn't have enough money on his account.

If students don't have money, the school will provide an alternate lunch, but Cayden knows that every student feels better when they have a few dollars in their lunch account.
