3.5mm stereo to 3 x speaker out (2.1)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a TV that has a headphone socket.  This used to be wired via 3.5mm jack to 2 x phono (RCA) into a stereo.  The stereo had 3 x speaker connectors (2 speakers, 1 sub).

The stereo died.  The only use I had for it was for that amplification and to the speakers.

What's a nice small (as small as possible) device I can use for this goal?  I just want to take the headphone signal, amplify it and send it out to the 2.1 speakers - which are wired in place so not replaceable.

depends on a couple of factors dude,

impedence of your speakers

wattage of said speaker and sub

space (although some amps can be tiny depending on how much you're prepared to spend)

So to clarify - you still have the adapter cable

Something like this

And your speakers connected to your stereo that is gone, how did the speakers connect RCA, bare wire with banana plug?  Can you change the connector or wire that runs to the speakers.  You mention they are hard wired in place?

But yeah I would think a simple amplifier is what your after - budget?  You mention that you want it small but don't mention any sort of budget..

Something like this maybe?

I am no audiophile by any means, but I don't think you can get sub woofer or 2.1 from a headphone jack?  I don't think the low freq is broken out to its own channel, I believe it is just downsampled?  if your speaker set?  Has the connection to the sub this should work.  If you need your own input to the sub then you would need a receiver that does the amplification and downsamples both channels (left, right) out to the sub.. Like I said I am no audiophile.. so maybe I am completely wrong there.  But this is my understanding of how it would work with a sub and only left right channel inputs (2.0)

Maybe something like this if you need sub output

Spot on.  I still have the cable, the speakers were bare wire.  Budget, not really sure but there are just "bedroom speakers for the occasional TV viewing after the pub" so quality isn't a big deal :)

It's a passive sub, and I used to take 2.1 into it - but no worries.

I'd go with the lepai then, my recommendations would probably not be what you were looking for..

...And if set correctly, you don't need to touch the gain on the amp, and simply control the volume from the TV

Wondering, seeing as this is just for light TV use, whether I should just ditch the sub anyhow?

Update, just listened without the amp, don't wanna get rid ;)
