Gmail for iOS doesn't suck anymore

The days of manually refreshing your Gmail inbox on iOS are over. Google has just released an update for Gmail that supports iOS 7's background app refresh. In the company's own words, this means there will be "no more annoying pauses while you wait for your inbox to refresh." Gmail will now retrieve your email even when the app is closed to make sure everything is ready and up to date the next time you open it. To take advantage of the new feature, you'll need to have background refresh turned on in your iOS system settings, and Gmail notifications must also be turned on. But once you've checked off those two steps, you'll never be waiting for your messages to refresh ever again. Gmail for iOS might not be on par with the Android experience just yet, but today's update eliminates a major annoyance. The latest Gmail update for iOS also adds support for single sign-in across Google's various apps. By signing into your Gmail account, you'll be able to quickly log in after downloading Google Maps, Google Drive, YouTube, and Chrome.

Good stuff but still within a HTML5 wrapper instead of being a native iOS app?

I thought Apple was gonna reject apps that were basically flash/HTML5 wrappers?

Ill stick with the MAILBOX app on IOS. But thanks

Cant you not delete emails from the standard mailbox app?  Or did they finally change that... I stopped using it as soon as the gmail app was available

I need to switch back and try it out now that they have proper background refresh.  I like the features of the Gmail app for iOS, but THAT lag is just terrible...

I gave up my labeling habits and switched to Mailbox.  I like Mailbox alright... It is as "snappy" as the stock Mail app while still maintaining push notifications.

I think I like the tabbed approach to Gmail a bit more than the flat inbox of Mailbox.

It has the feature to delete.  You swipe all the way from left to right to delete (the check mark becomes an 'X').  What that ACTUALLY does with the email, I'm not sure.
