But then if I forget my wallet..

I would have no cash

No Debit card

AND no drivers license.

I do keep $50 in my car though just in case I forget both and need gas.

Tell you what, this happened to me once but I luckily had enough change to make about $10. Now that I know I have that much change on hand in my car, I don't sweat it anymore.

Well can't vote in your poll because you did not include earlier decades, way to go.

Retarded poll is retarded.

And by the way you carry your debit card, drivers license and cash in your wallet, not some pocketbook/checkbook.   Lame!

Added your date. Not sure why I have to back that far, but have fun.

Thanks, warwagon, it's appreciated.  (y)

I only use checks to pay bills that can't be paid online.  I have only one that does that and they claim this is the year people will be able to pay online!  Yay!

P.S. It's just in this day and age older people are getting more and more marginalized and I get a bit sensitive about it.

P.P.S.S.  I was also born and raised in Iowa!

You still forgot to explain what a checkbook is :p

Ask your wife, she'll know.  ;)

My friends give me a hard time because I still use cash every-so-often. If you pulled out a chequebook, they'd fall to the floor laughing.

I think a location option would be interesting in the poll rather than age.

In the UK, cheques are pretty much on the way out. When I lived in the UK, I had a personal one which got used maybe twice in 10 years. However, we did pay for a few invoices at work by cheque because the seller preferred them. This is back in the mid '00s.

Here in Sweden, however, I think cheques have been abolished. You don't get one from the bank by default, and I'm not sure you can even if you wanted one.

I get the impression that cheques are only really used in countries that are still a generation behind in terms of day-to-day payment processing. I'm looking at you, mag-swiping, ATM fee-charging America!

I've never had a checkbook, wristwatch, or a home phone. I have a wallet but I think it's been in my pocket on just single digit occasions.

I'm sure there are countless other things that may seem routine to most. I'm not really one to accessorize.

Hello,

Ive used checks before.....they make good rolling paper. I don't know how you can smoke that but hey, everyone's taste is different I guess.

My question is, do you still carry a checkbook? Personally I still do, even though I only write 1 check per month. I just like having checks along just cause I forget my wallet at home or something which has my cash and my debit card.  I also keep a $50 Google Wallet card in my checkbook sepearte from my wallet for this reason as well.

How about everyone else?

Isn't your debit card also your cheque guarantee card? without that no-one would accept the cheque!

Got some checks in my desk for a couple bills that don't let me pay electronically... but actually carrying it?  Nah, hasn't left the house in years, haven't needed it, that's what I have debit cards for.. never mind the serious hassle of writing one and waiting for them to make sure I'm not ripping somebody off or the glares from people behind me as I have to wait for a manager to approve it.  Guess I don't have a trustworthy look.

Exactly the same here.

Thanks for typing all that out for me, Max :)

Everybody I know that doesn't carry/use a checkbook has their account all messed up. Never hear of them having it perfectly balanced. Most kids now a days couldn't add 2+2 if they wanted to anyway, so they just trust that their bank does everything correctly.

Nope, haven't used them in 10 years.

Credit card, debit card or cash are now accepted everywhere.

Funny thing, when I opened my bank account here and asked for a checkbook, they asked me "What is that?".

I completely dropped checks in the late 90's and used cash or debit cards, a lot of places were not thrilled since it hadn't become the trend yet

I still very rarely see some old person still using them at the supermarket as everyone in the line gets super annoyed, but only like once or twice a year now

I'm 26 and I've never used a checkbook. Which is probably about right.

All of my payments are done through direct debit or standing orders.

Where I work we technically still accept checks, we have that weird slidey thing and the carbon paper nonsense.. but we always say No we don't on the rare occasion just because it's SUCH a pain to deal with.

Eventhough checks are not very common, I would still be embarrassed for that bank

I don't carry a chequebook, however I do write a cheque once every 2 months or so.  I donate money on a regular basis to a small charity and they only accept money by cheque.

Do I carry one? No.

Do I have one? Yes.

Have I used it recently? When paying the deposit on my student house in Uni.

Nope. Cheques aren't that big in Australia as a method of payment anymore with the proliferation of EFTPOS and banks issuing debit Visa\Mastercards. They've pretty much fallen out of favour except among businesses paying other businesses and the elderly and even then the latter usually go for cash. Bank cheques are still common enough for things like houses and cars.

I pay my college online using my Debit Mastercard and most purchases in a store using PayPass on said card.
