iOS 7.1 call blocking no longer works

Recommended Posts

Per the title above, I've found call blocking to be useless in 7.1. Blocked numbers are getting through. Verified this by blocking my landline number and using that to call this phone. Also tried resetting all settings to no avail.

Depends on your provider, check your provider's website and see if you are able to add the blocked number to the block list and see.   If there is no white/black list on the website, you can call and see they can add the number to the list for you.

iOS has the ability to block calls natively, it has nothing to do with the carrier.

I'm still on 7.04 so can't test it for you.

I just testing mine and it's working properly.  Blocked my landline and tried calling and it did not ring.  Unblocked it and tried again and it ringed.

My carrier has block feature on the website on my account...  No problem.  Like I said depends.

You can block on your phone or website.. either way.

Was just stating that he's talking about the native blocking.:)

My carrier has the option as well, but you can only add up to 10 numbers.

Odd. Which phone and carrier are you on? Also can you verify you're on 7.1?

I'm confirmed on iOS 7.1 and it still works for me. Just blocked the wife, and didn't receive the call. Unblocked, call went through.

I can also confirm that by blocking my work number that it still works correctly on 7.1.  I have an att iphone 5s running 7.1.

I have an iPhone 5 sunning 7.1 on AT&T.

When I installed 7.1 I wiped my device and installed as a new phone and didn't use a backup.  So it was a fresh install.

Thanks for your response. I'll try a fresh wipe later.

Just tested it and it appears to work on my iPhone 5 with 7.1 installed on TFW/StraightTalk.

A blocked call just goes to voice mail on my phone.  It would be nice if it prevented even that.  My voice mail greeting states "Hello.  Please leave a message.  If you do not leave a message and I do not recognize your phone number, you will be blocked.  Thank you!"  :P

Got sick of random number that I did not recognize calling me and not leaving a message.

So an update.

I did a full restore of my phone and set it up as new. Blocking my landline number still does not work. :/ So it's either the carrier (Rogers)'s fault, or that I'm on a 4S. So far the responses in this thread are from iPhone 5's.

In any case I'm planning to file a bug report with Apple to see what's up.

Also Rogers does have blocking for unwanted SMSes, but I believe call blocking is still dependent on the phone.

Another update: the bug I filed with Apple regarding this issue was closed as a duplicate of another bug. So I'm guessing it's known internally.

  • 4 weeks later...

And another update: still not fixed in iOS 7.1.1...

Strange observation is that blocked numbers won't show up in the Recent call list, but the phone rings regardless. Also adding country code 1 or leaving it out makes no difference.
