You need to format the disk drive F: before you can use it. HHD drive.

So long story short.. I got icecream in my laptop... I opened it up and there was none near the SSD or the HHD harddrives.. Although im pretty sure it shorted out the computer.. Dont remember if it was on or not when it happened.

Anyways.. I purchased this drive reader from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QY9KIS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so i could read the HHD on another laptop.

I was excited when i got it today.. Finally be able to access my work files on my HHD (secondary drive)

But when i plug it into my second hand HP laptop running windows 7.. It gives me this error message: "You need to format the disk drive F: before you can use it. "

How do I get around this, and get to my files? :(

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

use a Linux live CD, like Knoppix, and use TestDisk. I've recovered many disk thanks to this tool.

there's a Windows version of it, but i've never use it.

also: never format that drive; in fact the less you use it the better chances are for a full, integral recovery.
