I have downloaded some apps from Itunes, but they don't automatically get installed/shown on my iphone.

I went to apps/itunes store setting on my iphone and ticked the apps under the automatic downloads.

any ideas? it's ios 7.1

are they jailbroken apps? Did you purchase those apps under another account?

downloaded from itunes on a computer

That is why.  iDevices do not automatically download apps that have been downloaded via itunes on a computer.  You need to sync the device using a physical cable or have it setup for wifi syncing.

Did you turn it on after you'd already downloaded the app on iTunes?

In the iTunes & App Store in Settings, you can enable Automatic Downloads. That is meant to automatically download new purchases made on other devices, providing you are using the same Apple ID.

This should do it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4539

You can see by my screenshot that I have it turned off.  I don't want auto download from other devices to happen so I keep it off.
