Unemployment and job search proof?

Recommended Posts

I'm applying for unemployment from which my job lay me off 3 months earlier then my contract said. Contract to hire 6 months because of lack of work. Anyway, now I'm applying for unemployment and my dad said that I would need proof that I'm searching for a job. I'm a graphic designer and Dont know how to prove that I'm applying jobs when everything is on monster, career builder and linkedin.

What so I do about this for proof?

I was unemployed for a while and all I had to do was logon to a website and list what jobs I applied for and how I applied. (some places you have to call in every week and do it that way) That was it.  I didnt have to have anything from the company I applied for.  Just stated who, where, wand when.  Not sure if they ever checked on any of the places I applied for, but they never questioned anything.  This was in the state of AZ so other states may vary.  There should be a number to call and ask this question.

So I just listed Monster.com as the source and stated the company name/position I was applying for.  I also kept an offline record of everywhere I applied for incase that was asked for.

I don't know about GA, but in PA they don't require proof here.

To continue receiving weekly unemployment benefits, GA unemployment requirements state that you must file a 'weekly claim' by doing the following:

1. Meet all of the GA unemployment requirements listed above.
2. Apply for at least two jobs each week.
3. Contact the Georgia unemployment office to file your 'weekly claim'. You can do this via phone or on the internet.

Toll Free: 1-866-873-5676 Georgia Department of Labor Office Georgia Unemployment Website

In order to keep receiving an unemployment check every week you must file a weekly certification, also known as a weekly claim or continued claim.

The purpose of filing a weekly certification is to tell the unemployment agency that you:

1. Are currently looking for a job.
2. Did not do any work this week.
3. Did not make any money this week (unless you are allowed to by the terms of your unemployment.)
4. Did not find another job.
5. Still want to receive an unemployment check or payment this week.

Therefore, it is very important to file your weekly certification every week to keep receiving your unemployment check.

If you delay in filing your weekly certification, you may not get your unemployment check on time.

You could always make a copy of your applications.

I wish you good luck with your job searches ....

Got my unemployment information in the mail and I was not he denied But its zero money. I Dont understand why I would get zero money when I was putting money in to this. Was it because I only work for 3.5 months only?

^ Probably.

In PA you must work 6 months at a particular job.

Or maybe you owed some 'over-payment' ... ?

You may be able to Appeal.

Call and ask.

Time to switch career paths ?

Man, that market is so over-saturated is beyond ridiculous - its like every person who's major was "liberal arts" or "general studies" became a graphics designer - any change you can go follow what makes you happy ?

For instance, I went to school for Bus. Mgmt - I graduated from U of Texas (Hook Em Horns !) then realized I hated what I was doing.  So I decided not to care about what I made, and was just going to do what I enjoy.... computers.

I highly recommend it.

My fiance graduated with a Bachelors in Human Resources - was an HR Mgr for a couple companies, and hated it - hated the "business world" - she decided she was going to start over and do what she always wanted - now she is a

Pediatrician and loves what she does - healing/helping little kids.

There is nothing better than someone paying you to do something you would do for free.  And there is nothing worse than hating what you do for a living.

Just some food for thought

In Switzerland you need to have worked for 12 months in order to be able to apply for chomage (unemployment benefits), I believe. When you get through the group meetings and get your one-on-one counsellor, you just need to show up once a week with a list of the jobs that you've sent your CV in to.

I agree with T3X4S. If you can't find work in graphic design then it may be time to look for work elsewhere. Going back to chomage in Switzerland, when you first start out your counsellor will ask you, "where would you like to work?" If 12/18 months down the line you have still not found something in that area, the counsellor will start making you apply for anything and everything. It might not be a job of your choice, but it's still a job.

I was unemployed a few years back.  The "proof" thing is to highlight dole dossers.  I told them I use recruitment sites and agencies, and was told to literally write down 2 jobs a week I have applied for and that would be that.

2 jobs a week? Wow..that must be harsh. Not to compare since your state is probably bigger than my whole country but here I'd run out of jobs to apply for in 8 weeks with that kind of rules.
