I think a $50 price drop may come with this as well...As well as a lot of other system update goodies...

A $450 price translates to roughly $900 in local currency after taxes. :/ They might as well not launch in India. It's due to high import duties but still ridiculous, have a look at Xbox 360 price today

You have to wonder how Microsoft can claim the Xbox One was a "worldwide launch" when most countries have to wait nearly a year to get hold of it. Classic marketing.

I understand what you're saying, but...

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • New Zealand
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

The list features countries across the world, how else would you describe it?

Anyone else think that's a long time to wait? Almost a year from launch!

I expected 3-4 months to be honest.

It does seem like it, but it's not like they could wait and hold up their release in the countries they were ready for with the PS4 out.  To be fair, the other countries will get a better product with more games from the get-go so it's not all bad unless you're gung-ho about being an early adopter.

Holy crap.

25499 Indian Rupee equals
461.277 Canadian Dollar.  You can get a brand new PS4 for that.

I am dissapointed at the long wait. BUT on the other hand, I look at the two consoles today, at the list of games available, and the release schedule, and I see that... there won't be any reason to own it until then anyway.

Not ruling out that I will import before september anyway, but I don't know. depends on the economy I guess.

Well at least they will get a much more "READY" launch than us by then. At least if Microsoft keeps the steady updates coming in.  Its already a much improved system then launch day. To be honest I kind of suspected MS wanted to release the end of this year anyway and rushed it out a bit but i dont know.  Not to mention the game selections by then should be pretty nice.

I thought the roll out would be more of a "roll out", opening to more countries as they went along but 10months is too long IMO. Then most of these countries are probably not big on gaming consoles or xbox in particular (historic data etc.)

you think?  (that's ~ US$655)

I meant here, I assumed the ps4 would be very expensive over there.

Why are there so many European countries there? I would have thought they would have all been included in the Euro launch.

Japan isn't surprising. MS knows their product isn't super popular there, I don't think they are rushing to that market in a big hurry.

I'm pretty sure this expansion will see a revised model (thus cheaper) and also a price cut.  Lots of those places need a lower priced model from the get go to make any sales sense as has been pointed out.  And while it's a long wait, the library will at least grow by then, not missing out on much at this point, it's why I don't own either new system yet.

I'll just game on my PC for 2014, always figured the good stuff was more closer to 2015 at the start.   Still, a price cut around September would be a first, they've never cut the price a year or less than a year into a consoles life span (not counting what retail does but the maker I mean).   $50 would be easy to see but they could go all in and cut it to down to $399 as well.

Gifting 10 months unchallenged sales to Sony is not going to be good

Yeah, its very risky.

My guess is that they simply needed more time to make sure the entire system was working properly in each of these regions.

We could be looking at a 3 or 4:1 margin between consoles by the time Sept hits.

At this point it's obvious it's about localization, and then primarily voice req, which in all these countries have lagged behind, and in some of them are very hard to do, heck it's hard to do in any language. For Norway both MS and other companies have been doing voice req research for at least a couple of decades now.

not sure why they couldn't do a more rolling rollout as they get ready though, probably an executive decision, or it's in line with a MAJOR system update.

Unlikely. as it is today. with the post holiday sales sales on both have dropped to "normalized" levels for a console, though lower for both than the 360 has been seeing last year on many months, and the PS4 was only "almost" selling double. Most likely it'll stay that way as there's nothing making that month special from the next few months until september, it's pretty much a month that can be used to tell the "temperature" for the sale for the next year untill the holiday sales. And if i stays that way they won't even get a 2:1 ratio. (remember they sold 4-5 millions each before xmas, that is probably close to the total they will sell this whole year, UNTILL next holiday sale season when you get another rush). If the non release territories start selling more, they might get around a 2:1 ratio, but the PS4 will have to start selling unusually high for low months to get past that. even to hit that it will have to.

Only if you forget that they're selling well right now.

Also 3 or 4:1?  They're under 2:1 and it's not getting worse right now, I'm not sure how you figure that.

So to do the math the simple way and with simplified numbers. Let's asusme Sony sold 5 million before xmas and MS sold 4.

And lets assume MS sold 150k in the post xmas months and this keeps up and keeping with the sony claim assume the sold 300k(reality seems to point to somewhere int he 250-270k area).

that puts MS at 4 + 1.2 Million, or 5.2 million at the start of september

and it puts Sony at 5 + 2,4 Million or 7.4 million at the start of september.

this assumes standard to low sales numbers based on the month for MS, and it assumes Sony's inflated 280-300k numbers was correct and that they can keep up that exceptional number for 8 consecutive months, most of which are extremely low season for console sales.

Either way, using these speculatively high numbers. 5.2 vs 7.4 is nowhere near a 2:1 ratio. much less fantasy 3:1 or 4:1 ratios. It's not a good position, but it's not horrible.

I can't believe some painted this as a negative pictures. I see nothing but positive here. More consoles for more gamers. It will only increase sales and support for the Xbox One, making our investments even that much better.

I guess your right. I was worried that since the PS4 is sold in so many more regions than the X1, it would lead to a growing margin over time. I mean eventually MS would saturate the regions it is in, but maybe that would not be close to happening before this new wave of launches occurs.

Well you make a good point. Seeing it laid out like that does help to point out what the reality might be. As I said above, I was just more worried that the lack of presence in other regions would push the numbers up for Sony in a large way.
