2 SSDs what to do?

Recommended Posts

Well I've decided to upgrade HD in my wife's Macbook Pro to SSD and have bought "Samsung 840 Evo Basic" than I went out and checked it against Crucial m4 in my main rig and it seems that 840 isa a fair deal faster at least in benchmarks.

So the question is, should I bother/is it worth it to back up everything, take out m4 from my main rig and put it into MBP so I can have 840 in my main rig or the difference is not that noticeable?

Both of them would be used for day-to-day stuff nothing fancy except for main rig which is used for gaming.

Well regardless of what you go with the difference between what she has now and a SSD is going to be night and say.

Having through about my Own Macbook Pro, the HDD and or the Mac OS did feel really snappy even with an HDD. That being said, the SSD made a huge diff in the boot and shut down time and just because it's a laptop is good enough reason for an SSD. Laptops get moved around SSD are much better for it.

I would always put the newer fast drive in "my" rig vs the wife's laptop.. Why are you even asking such a question ;)

The benchmarks I just looked at the 840 evo blows away the Crucial m4 - the total score is close to double on ssd benchmarks m4 is like 652, and 840 evo is 1017.  Maybe not looking at exact disks you have.

But its not really all that much trouble - take image, write image to new disk.  Take image of laptop - write image to m4 disk.  What maybe an hour?

The Evo is faster because it's newer technology.  The M4 is still a very high quality SSD though.

You probably won't notice too much of a difference in real-world applications.

I'm of the same opinion as the majority of the other posts here: you won't notice the speed differences in practice for the most part. I might still do it anyway. Though, I never DID get around to putting my Intel 520 in my laptop instead of my Intel x-25m...
