Assassin's Creed: Unity revealed

Recommended Posts

I doubt it, well, actually we might but there's still a story there to follow so I don't know how much you can change things.

Well think in terms of Halo Co-Op for story mode, I would say that would be awesome. I just hope it's not like classes, cause that would suck.

Ubisoft have released a trailer to announce the next game in the Assassin's Creed series, and it looks like this time we'll be heading to France. The game is due out holiday 2014 on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4.

I seriously don't believe that is alpha game footage, it's too pretty to be legit.

Like Watch Dogs it probably runs on dual GTX Titans.

I'm with you there, I've played all of them so far, might as well.  This one looks good though, I like the changes and it seems the world has more places you can enter buildings and stuff instead of just running around in the streets or on the roofs.   I always wanted to be able to enter more buildings to assassinate targets.

Looks very good but found the gameplay trailer too violent and cruel...maybe i'm just getting soft in old age. Well, definitely getting soft in old age. Oh you know what i mean!

Your double meaning has been noted.

The violence was high in E3 in general though, lots of games did it, look at what they showed with Far Cry 4.

It's assassins of course it's violent ;) its also in one of the most violent periods of French history, at least this game isn't violent without reason.

Yeah, it was the least shy E3 about violence that i remember...at least since GTA III was revealed. Between ACU, FC4, and MKX there were quite a lot of anatomy in the presentations.

Those games are very slashy...i just didn't like the heads on the sticks, though it is i suppose accurate to history in many respects - well, not that we were there but head lopping was quite in vogue in France during those days.

Basically the same video demo they showed at the Ubisoft event BUT it helps to have the dev talking about it.  For example I like how he told us about the new systems they added, all of it sounds good, seems like they took the cover to cover system from Splinter Cell and added it in, which is great since I love playing stealth.   Also the bit at the end about them having disguises!  I mean finally, after so many games they took one of the key elements from Hitman and added it.  I mean what kind of assassin couldn't do that?  It's going to be good to have the option to take out a guard, take his uniform and walk up to the target and kill them.

I wish they'd talk a bit more about the changes to the combat system though.

Yeah I figured everyone should know a bit more. I love all the new stuff though like you don't have to look for a haystack to do the leap of faith.. well it's not really the leap of faith anymore.

I see they kept the enemy "im going to attack you now" indicator. Please let there be an option to turn it off. The stealth mode that was showed was a joke or its the enemy AI that's bad because the player was on the other side of the table from the enemy who should see him. Then when the player moved to the stairs being clearly visible he is not spotted. Eagle Pulse, now the player and see through walls. Thank you Batman: Arkham games. I would like a way to plan an attack but why go the easy route with see through walls. Since they want stealth let the player stand next to a wall go into first person view and peek into a open door or window to get the layout or the room and study the enemies movements before going in. Give the player a small scope and view a room from a building roof or room that is across the street something that feels like you are doing something instead of seeing through walls.

AI in AC is typically made dumb to enable the whole thing...they're only smart during trailing missions. It's the same in Watch Dogs. AC the only times baddies pose a threat is when they gang up on you and you're careless. Otherwise they have the survival instinct of a meteor. Of course with AC they can always say it's part of the Animus, just like late 1790's Paris being populated by people who speak the Queen's English.

If I remember my AC correct, that's exactly what they said in the first game, the animus changes the language you hear/speak to the one the user understands, thus English.  It does make sense really, we're talking about a fictional tech that beams data right into your head, I'm sure it can do real-time translation as well.  :P

As far as the AI in the demo, guys, it's a demo, they've tweaked it so to make it look how they want, making AI dumber and probably even turning on god mode.  You're never going to see someone die when they're doing these on stage at something like E3.

And watchdogs AI isn't that bad, of course I'm just playing on normal but if you get into a gunfight with more than 2 people you're in for trouble.

With AC anything goes because of the Animus...i think the first game even excused graphical limitations because it was "ver 1.0" or beta animus. Yes, it's cool and funny and understandable within the fiction. Just hope there's an option to play in French. I mean it's fine they couldn't be bothered with 11th century Latin and Arabic, or even 15th century Italian, but let's not forget Connor and other spoke Iroquois (more or less)

Good point about the demo AI and difficulty...demos are indeed typically with cheats enabled to prevent any embarassing moments.

Think of it like the movie the last warrior, where the Vikings spoke Norwegian(ish) and gradually turned into English as he learned the language, to illustrate they still spoke Norwegian(they should have spoken Norse anyway, which is close to Icelandic) but he understood and spoke it now. After all he should have spoken Arabic not English himself :P   so they do speak French, you just happen to speak French to :)

The 13th Warrior? Oh no why did you mention that, it was one of the most cringe-worthy scenes in movie history :x "i can speak your language now!" out of nowhere, Vikings all look at Banderas like he's nuts. That should be a meme, somehow.

Though that is basically anime logic...but why British English? Guess the operator is from the UK? That's something Ubi didn't address. Is this still even in the animus? Then who is the operator? Hope it's someone like the person from Black Flag, silent protagonist is a cliche, but at least it meant more room for Ed Kenway, who was awesome.

Well he did learn it through months, possibly years of sailing. Viking "raids" where very long affairs.

Hahaha yeah that was the intention, and how it was in the book. But in the movie it was hilarious, just sitting round the fire - "i can speak your language now" hahaha. Awesome.
