Ubisofts Uplay is useless

Recommended Posts

Am i the only person to find this the most useless piece of junk ever?

I had to install Ubisoft Uplay to redeem my Trials Fusion beta key on, It started downloading at full speed with an ETA of 5 mins to download the game, great.

However after that the download got progressively slower until it eventually stopped, then every few hours it seems to do a bust download, maxing my internet connection out, then deciding to stop for ages again.

It doesn't seem to matter if i quit Uplay, cancel the download, pause it, start it again, it just randomly stops and refuses to do anything.

The download has been stuck at 99% for about an hour now...

I bought Anno 2070 on Steam and found that I had to download and install this ridiculous app to play my game. And yeah, it doesn't even work well but at least I was able to play my game.

It's getting to the point where it should be classed as a security product: It's mission is to prevent you from accessing content.

So true, i guess if no one can download the game it will never be pirated.

Two hours later ive managed to download 4mb and now just have the last 1mb to go...

This has just re enforced to my why i got any PC game that required anything other than Steam on the Xbox 360.

It`s utter rubbish.

Terrible UI and god awful layout make it cumbersome to use.

Not to mention that personally Ive been prevented from playing several games online due to it not liking ports on my isp`s end.

Port`s that aren`t normally needed, but which for some reason Uplay wants to use.

On Steam the beta isn't even uploaded yet. You just download 80 megs or so (Uplay installer maybe, I dunno lol) and that's it. On the Steam forums people are pretty miffed about it, especially since the beta has been going on since the 21st supposedly.

I thought the beta was launching just before the games release in April?

Still, i agree uPlay is terrible. I don't mind using other apps to launch games but they have to work.

The problem with uPlay is, it sometimes requires an update and it will take forever to update. Like 56K speeds.

I also find if you download a game via uPlay it will just kill your internet connection. I bet you can guess how fun that was when download AC4.

Another thing was that it doesn't scan your drive for uPlay enabled games. It doesn't recognise i have Driver San Fran installed.

It says "download" in uPlay but if i click the shortcut on my desktop, it loads fine

I'm not particularly fond on Uplay, at least when it's included in games on Steam. I shouldn't have to install and use another client when buying games on Steam and this is something I hope Valve eventually starts cracking down on. If installing Uplay/Origin is a must when buying games on Steam it should integrate better. There should be a lite version for games on Steam and other digital distribution platforms that launches silently in the background and integrates seamlessly enough that the end user doesn't know it's there. Then integrate a login ingame for games with a multiplayer aspect much like some EA games do then I wouln't mind Origin/Uplay so much.

This is another reason I am not so fond of Uplay:

I don't know if I should waste my time with support to explain what happened only to receive a more than unhelpful automated reply.

I left my PC downloading the last 1mb last night, it had actually decided to finish sometime over night... 16ish hours for something that could have been downloaded in 5-10 mins.  :pinch:

If you pre order the game on Amazon you get a beta code and can download the beta now. Same if you commit and buy it now on Uplay you will get the beta also.

Personally i would go the Amazon way as you can play the beta and cancel your pre-order if you so wish. I have since done that and will get the game on the Xbox One. Should be easier for multiplayer with friends on the Xbox anyway.

That's my thoughts too, I like Steam as its established and just works. In my 10+ years of using Steam i have never personally had a problem with it. I can always max my internet connection out, put it in offline mode if needed, i like how i now also have Mac versions of games i have purchased on PC which is a nice bonus. Basically I know its reliable, and to me personally Steam = PC gaming.

I have no desire to have septate friends lists on Uplay, Origin and what ever else comes along next to try and force users on to.

Funny how we are discussing the merits of Uplay now. And Steam is having major connectivity issues since yesterday for quite a few people, including me. I've been "No connection" for 3 hours now. Uplay is working though. To bad all the games have to launch through Steam still though :D

Yea. I completely agree. UPlay and Origin are both 100% useless, as they don't offer anything that isn't already available on another service...like say steam.

Yeah, nothing more I love than opening up one DRM platform to play a game only to have to open a friggin' second one.

Oh yeah forgot to mention there support.

Where if your problem is left unanswered for more than 3 days its auto marked as "solved".

Where 50% into your contact with them, they suddenly want proof of purchase, despite the fact your logging into Uplay to play the damn thing!!

I ended up giving up as they were again, utterly and totally useless.

Not to mention, that despite knowing the problem, they refused to take ownership of it. Instead faffing about and wasting my time until a patch that actually fixed there mistake.
