PS4 has been met with an amazing amount of enthusiasm and excitement from both gamers and developers alike since its launch back in November, and the six million gamers who have already bought PS4 have really embraced this next-generation gaming experience. We?ve got more than 100 games scheduled to launch on PS4 this year alone, including Watch_Dogs, The Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny and The Order: 1886.

That amazing line-up is made possible by the development community, who have been hard at work with our hardware, already pushing it to do things that we never expected. Recently we reached a significant milestone with more than 1,000 developers licensed globally to self-publish on our platforms.

A year ago at the Game Developers Conference, we kicked our support for independent developers into high-gear. Since then, we continued to partner with some of the world?s best and brightest independent developers committed to bringing their titles ? some of the most creative and innovative games I?ve seen ? to PlayStation platforms.

We?ve already seen some great content hit PS4 ? from crafting waffles in Don?t Starve to scaring the pants off of people with Outlast. We?re looking forward to some of this year?s self-published titles like Octodad, Transistor, N++, GALAK-Z, Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and The Witness, and you know we?re all already playing a metric arrow ton of TowerFall Ascension.

This year?s GDC was awesome, as usual. We had a blast meeting with developers, both partners we?ve worked with time and time again, as well as new up-and-coming talent. We also continued collecting feedback from developers on what they?ve discovered while spending time with our platforms, and we introduced some new tools that will help ease the process of bringing their games to PlayStation gamers? not to mention how we peeked into the future of PlayStation.

To developers, to fans: THANK YOU for helping us make history with PlayStation 4.

I can't say i've been too impressed with the indie stuff released so far on PS4 but it is early days and I think some great stuff will happen in due course.

What's a big mistake? Sony aren't publishing any of the games or taking control of them. They're saying thanks to the developers (both AAA and indie) and highlighting there are 1000 self-publishers on board.

That's nothing to do with EA and their "indie" games controversy.

im saying if EA get some indie devs into that self publishing program, youll start seeing stuff like candy crush or whatever they make getting on to PS4, can guarantee it

I don't think they'll start porting their mobile games to PS4 (or X1/Wii U for that matter). They wouldn't fool "hardcore" gamers into buying microtransactions like they can on iOS/Android. You'd already see games like Simpsons Tapped Out / Dungeon Keeper on them if that were the case.

The type of gameplay wouldn't even work on a console and they'd be laughed out the store. Those types of transactions are surrounding the broken F2P model, not indie and self publishing. If they really wanted to do it, they don't need a self publishing program, EA are publishers, they could do it any time they like.

Even if this somehow wound up being true, I then have to ask so what?

Unless I download the game myself it really does not matter what they release for other people.

And there will still be plenty of other indy games that would not do this. Plenty as in probably most.

Well 1000 indie developers is a huge number. I hope that results in a steady stream of game content.

I also hope that leads to more games that are not already on the pc.

I am liking indie games more than I thought I would.

SteamWorld was a great PSN title and it never bored me when I played it. I am really hoping for games such as that.

I don't mind Indies at all. But I still got a feeling that PSN and Live will become giant "crap bins" that u have to sift through tons of garbage to find that 1 gem.

Can't wait to see the million copy cat games, once somebody does make a gem...
