New Malwarebytes looks like Malware

Question

anyone else download version 2?... looks terrible, what where they thinking when they came up with this one.  It's hard enough to tell people what to look out for but when the cure looks like the disease it makes it ever harder....

below is what the first run looks like....

Although i agree it looks like adware, as long as it works i don't care what it looks like.

Although i agree with you, Software that looks like that is only going to confuse already confused normal users

I quite like the new look, but yes it does look like the ransom ware of old which is little unfortunate.  What also annoys me using the paid for Premium edition is the ad's for other products, even if it is there own.

You got to love that big green "Fix Now" button, that gives no clue what will really happen if you click on it!

Seems like every software company is moving to huge buttons and bright colors, and one click fixes everything solutions.

It's an on-going attempt to make computers and software like toasters and kettles, with all the "tech" stuff hidden away from our prying eyes.

There are some very well defined design guides for Windows applications, and have been going back for as far as I can recall.  The APIs provide a nice consistent functionality alongside a coherent look and feel.

Apps that break these really irk me.  Apps that break these so badly and look like malware will never touch my system.

Why can't these companies just install their software and be quiet?  Computer needs a scan?  Just bloody well do it when the user isn't active.  Definitions out of date?  WELL UPDATE THEM.

Asking a user who doesn't know any better to fix things is poor.

The new look is not just ugly, it's as if they thought "hey, why not just use XP-like colors now that it's coming out of support and then use the same visual cues that the malware we try to clean just for the sake of it".

The old interface was miles better than this.

It's a trend that never seem to ends on Windows: developers instead of embracing native controls and design guidelines they think they are smart for choosing these ugly UI's.

Maybe that is the whole point, to appeal to the millions of XP users. ;)

'We will protect you computer now that Microsoft is not'.

It's always felt like Malware to me. I uninstall it frequently.

You install it often then uninstall it?

It used to be a great removal tool, its getting less effective every year however.

I've never installed it - no need.

Agreed it's not very effective.

Devil's advocate: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Maybe they're disguising themselves as the bad guy to, well, be the 'good guy.'

I just thought it looked more win8.x friendly. I think it's about time they updated the UI, however, as long as it still works great, you'll hear no fuss outta me (using the pro version)

I have often suspected that anti-malware workers create a few viruses now and then, to look like you need their products. ;)

edit: come to think of it, it really doesn't work as well as it used to... What happened? O.o

I wonder if they have at least fixed the scrambled text when the language is set to Japanese.

...

OK. GUI doesn't look that bad. Japanese text seems to have been fixed too.
