Izlude Posted April 4, 2014 Share Posted April 4, 2014 Oh my gosh I think the DMD board just died. I have a Samsung HLP5674WX/XAA (big screen DLP... and one hell of a screen it is). The lamp works, I see the light from behind the TV and the screen is still lit. The color wheel works because I can hear it. I was here browsing topics here on Neowin, when suddenly the screen goes blank. No menus appear when I press the settings button on the side. Could the DMD have gone out?? According to this website: http://www.tvserviceparts.com/4719-001959.html It's a 500 dollar part >:O this can't be right... There has to be another option here... ebay has a complete board going for 130 (pulled from a previous TV)... but that site is showing me a single chip... do I replace it the way I do a CPU? Izlude Posted April 4, 2014 Author Share Posted April 4, 2014 Hi thanks for the input, it didn't work :( I'm now aware that it could be the Analog board and not the DMD. Let me know what you think. While using it, there were no signs of artifacting (squares or lines all over the screen) which is common with bad DMD. Strange how it suddenly all just disappeared at once. I see analog boards going between 24 - 60 dollars. After a little input, I may decide on buying one and making sure that "IT" is/isn't the issue :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I used to work for a tv repair company and ive seen plenty of tvs with your symptom and pulling the AC cord while on fixed them. Most likely the mainboard that's gone bad. Once the TV is on can you turn it off from the remote or on the set ? If you can't turn it off then its the mainboard. Try entering it into service mode by pressing mute, 1, 8, 2, and then power. If you see a picture, there should be an option to run something called exercise checksum. After its done just unplug AC cord. If everything fails just get yourself a mainboard. It is indeed the DMD board, but not the DLP chip that's on it. Analog and Digital boards are just fine. (inputs) Looks like it'll be 60 bucks, but it's currently out of stock. I'll have to go digging around. The TV was manufactured in 2004, bought it at the salvation army for 100 bucks back in 09 I think it was, so it's had it's run.
