Aero Glass For Windows 8.1 Update

Many people have used BigMuscle's aero-glass installation for win8/8.1, unfortunately, it is not applicable to win8.1 Update. @moderate of MDL found that it was due to it requires to update the "Symbols" used in aero-glass installation.

1. In win8.1 update, launch BigMuscle'sinstallation. setup-w8.1-1.2.1.exe (do not use 1.3, it's for win8)

    Pause when it gets to "setup destination folder"

   In explorer, manually create the needed folders.

 

 

 

2. Open the Symbols patch, choose the correct folder, and copy all contents to the created folder.

 

 

 

3. Contine with installation and get aero-glass!!  :)

I don't use that software, it looks nasty and I hate the annoying popups. I use another application that is completely free and does not come with any annoyances.

Also that screenshot looks like the window frames are just transperant, there is no "Aero Glass" blur effect.

It's called WinaeroGlass, it looks best using the Snowy8 VS. Its only my opinion that it looks better, I am sure not everyone shares my taste.

Also i'm noticing that, aprt from an error console that pops up at startup, glass8 works also on update1 without problems.

Yeah I got an error after logging in, but it's continued to work as normal.

No blur on yours, since it's just a window skinner. 

 

either way, I don't see the need for either. but yours don't actually replace Aero.

So you're saying they're supposed to spend resources developing and supporting two different UI schemes for no good reason ? you can only spend resources on alternatives for so long before it's merely wasted resources, Aero don't even fit in witht he rest of the design language in Windows 8+

The taskbar is transparent, yet the window frames aren't? How does that "fit in"? Before we could disable or enable transparency if we wanted, but it makes no sense having some things transparent, and others not. I want them both to match.

Sorry HawkMan, I agree with your viewpoint about redundancy and that will happen at some point, but I have to agree with McKay on this one.

Besides, judging by the 3rd party alternatives, it wouldn't be that much work to reenable it and make it flawless for the desktop environment (and it doesn't have to clash with the ModernUI either).

 

I think MS are listening to what consumers want and will do this at some point, looking at their current plans for the reintegration of the Start Menu and windowed ModernUI applications (which were previously enabled by 3rd party apps as well).

I didn't say they need to match, he said aero glass doesn't fit in with Metro, so I pointed out the taskbar still uses glass. I didn't say they need to match, I said I want them to match. Even though I dislike the solid colour I'd prefer to have them both solid than have a solid window border mixed with transparent taskbar.

Except it does crash, visually there's issues with having both transparent and non transparent title bars. heck black text is already a problem with their non transparent one.

I love the look of Aero glass with the square corners of 8, the theme we had in one of the Previews. I'd prefer the old button from Windows 7 that let you disable the transparencies.

They don't. But some people would want them to. Why choice is bad all of a sudden? Cause MS said so? Choice has always been one of the strong points of the desktop PC. Remove the choice and you almost get an Apple product.

Does no black explorer frames fit in with clean Metro design?

 

They could have had the text turn White when it detected a dark background but they left it dark grey and refuse to acknoeledge there's even an issue. They have stopped responding to support threads about the issue and delete any new threads that pop up about the issue.

 

I have Aero glass, if both the taskbar and explorer border weren't transparent I probably wouldn't have given it a 2nd thought, but the fact one was and the other wasn't annoyed me, it didnt make sense. I like the look of Aero with sharp corners, it's the same theme we had in one of the Previews of 8.

Yeah, because the symbols code got updated, because the old patch is not compatible with win8.1 Update pack KB2934018-x64 . :)
