Aero Glass For Windows 8.1 Update

I am confused, Aero Glass is working just fine for me (no update) on 8.1 update. Never changed anything from before the update.

I don't get any pop-ups?

Actually it did, if you haven't noticed, metro isn't meant to have black chrome.

And yes they could have had an auto detect that changed the text color to white when the color passed a certain threshold. But they don't as of now. Who knows why, the official answer is that they don't consider it a problem. It could also be part of the same issue windows has always had with dark themes. That title bar don't color is shared with another text, and if you set it white there are some areas of windows that would get unreadable white on white. Which is why you never find a usable black windows skin.

So far it is known that installing  KB2934018-x64 would cause problem to the old symbols pack, and need to update. :)

I don't use that software, it looks nasty and I hate the annoying popups. I use another application that is completely free and does not come with any annoyances.

other windows versions without the glow hasn't handled black themes at all. since as I said, there are elements of the windows that use the same font settings as the title bar, leaving you with areas in explorer or other windows where you have white text on white background. This has been an issue since windows XP and before. The solution has usually been to make those areas have a black background to. but that background is shared with other elements again, which uses another font, that also has to be made white the and so on...

 

Black windows themes have been a nightmare to get right since forever. and most of them have ended up having to sacrifice something by simply accepting that some text will either be black on black or white on white, and they end up sacrificing the least used areas. 

 

I've yet to see any black themes with white titlebar text that doesn't have at least one issue somewhere with impossible or near impossible to read text in the skin.

Like I said, it's not for everyone but I like this, I cant stand annoying pop ups.

Yes, if you have a donation key it downloads the latest symbols automatically so Windows Updates don't break glass.

You can't use any dark colours in Windows 8 or the text becomes unreadable. The Windows theme before XP was mostly dark blue and had white text on it, Windows XP used white text on a blue background, it only changed colour when you selected the silver theme etc, in which case the text changed to black. You had several official themes for XP that were black, like the ZuneTheme or Royale Noire, these were black with white writing on. I have never seen the issues you mentioned on official Microsoft themes. I'm not counting 3rd party themes or manually changing the colours your self because they simply dont count. 

 

Windows 8 is the first Windows since 95 that seems to struggle to grasp the concept that people want dark themes, if they didn't want us to have them, why put them in?

I disagree that black chrome with white text doesn't fit into Metro design, Metro is mostly black background with white text, started out with Zune

 

 

This continued over into Windows Phone

 

 

When xbox 360 became metro its large quantities of White text on dark backgrounds

 

 

And this of course continued over into the Xbox One

 

 

Metro design language has always consisted of black or white typography on a contrasting background, yet suddenly on Windows 8, they completely go against how every single prior Windows version handled text on chrome colours, completely went against how text is supposed to contrast and stand out, and stuck you with dark grey text. That's your only choice.

ya, I really Miss Aero Glass. In my opinion it really made the desktop look nice. Now this windows 8 solid color windows really look like ass.

 

I just wish they would turn off all animation and fades by default of new installs of Vista, 7 and 8. With out them windows  feels sooooooo much more snappier. Anyone who hasn't tried Windows without animation and fades should try it. I don't think you'll want to go back.

I didn't say they need to match, he said aero glass doesn't fit in with Metro, so I pointed out the taskbar still uses glass. I didn't say they need to match, I said I want them to match. Even though I dislike the solid colour I'd prefer to have them both solid than have a solid window border mixed with transparent taskbar.

 

Ok, I think I paratially misunderstood. I don't see the taskbar as being "aero glass" I always saw the "glass" as being the transparency & the blur which isn't in Windows 8. But that's besides the point, I agree the options should be there. UI options seem incredibly light in Windows 8.

 

 

They don't. But some people would want them to. Why choice is bad all of a sudden? Cause MS said so? Choice has always been one of the strong points of the desktop PC. Remove the choice and you almost get an Apple product.

The effect on the taskbar is called "accent" - it just renders whole window transparently and colorized with colorization color. It can be applied on any window, but it makes no sense.

 

Also, using tools such as WinAeroglass has no sense. Yes, it gives you transparent frame on one side, but on the other side, all windows are periodically spammed with WinAPI messages and they are set to be layered (even client area is rendered with very small transparency) which results in very poor performance and high energy consumption.
