Photo Editing Software/Program for SONY vaio pro 13: Windows 8

Question

Hey you guys!!

So I've had the SONY vaio Pro 13 Ultrabok for a couple of months now and while the touch screen SUCKS, everything else seems good... Everything else EXCEPT for the fact: Yesterday I was going crazy looking for a program where I can simply crop, maybe add some effects to some of my pictures. But I didn't find any

((I remember with one of my older computers I had HP Image Zone (software that came the printer/scanner/copier) . It was so easy to use. I didn't have to log in or I have a username. I simply would just look for the file by the folders and select the ones I wanted to edit. Select multiple pics if I wanted to. That's it. It even asked if I wanted to keep the original))

Please HELP! lol I want something just as easy to use HP Image Zone from a credible downloading website that's not going to mess up my browser, computer, etc. Kodak? HP? MAC software for PCs? There has to be something out there...

Thanks!!

You can take a look at

http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

FREE - has a portable version.. Its not all that pretty of an interface, but what is more important features or eye candy interface?

Or you looking for some metro app in windows 8?

I have a copy of their capture software, one of my must have tools - and it also does lots of editing stuff. If I want to do basic stuff on a image I just load it in fastcapture. If I want to do real fancy stuff I use gimp. But for most day to day stuff, their products work out just fine.. I jut resized some images to put on my digital frame here at work with their resizer tool, also free.

HI!! Thanks. I'm just a little confused as to which one exactly to download- the Fast Stone Image Viewer 5.1 right?

My thing is.... Yesterday I downloaded a Kodak Easy share from a website similar to this one. It then added a whole bunch of other crap (virus or bug idk). So from then on I had a whole bunch of ads and I basically had to end up calling McAffee to fix the problem. lol They said it was a problem with my browser.

So how do I make sure this doesn't happen again? lol

McAffee is pretty terrible in my opinion; it is almost worse than the malware it is supposed to be trying to remove. Give Malwarebytes Anti-malware a try, it is a good free program and hopefully should clear up your problem. Also check your browser(s) for any unwanted addons/extensions that may have been installed.

For avoiding it try to always download software from reputable sites or the manufacturer's own site (though Kodak Easyshare has been discontinued) and avoid sites like C-Net's Download.com like the plague because they pack in all kinds of adware and other garbage into their downloads, have misleading links, etc. Also when installing read carefully because many programs come bundled with toolbars and other stuff you don't want; usually you can opt out of installing them.

As Jason recommended Paint.net and Gimp are nice programs; another free one I have used that you may want to try is called PhotoFiltre Studio.

Thanks Thrackerzod!......

THat's the thing. How do I know if getpaint.net and the other website he provided me are from reputable sites?

I mean know you guys know you're stuff I'm not doubting that at all lol

I just want to make sure that doesn't happen again. I'm not sure which link/ download to download :(

And how do I "check your browser(s) for any unwanted addons/extensions that may have been installed."?

Do I do this before or after the download? I have Windows 8.

The links posted here are for the official sites so it is safe to download the programs there. :)

Here is a guide for installing and using Malwarebytes to scan your system. It sounds like checking your addons may be a bit advanced so don't worry about doing that. Malwarebytes should find and remove any bad stuff it finds and if you still have a problem with popups afterwards just post again and I'm sure someone can talk you through fixing the problem.

Thread merged into the one you made in Software Discussion and Support.

In the future, please do not cross-post the same question in multiple sections. If you need further assistance with malware removal, feel free to create a new topic in the appropriate section.

"Yesterday I downloaded a Kodak Easy share from a website similar to this one"

Sim to faststone??  I doubt that to be honest - that site is dedicated to their software, its a company site..  What is the link you downloaded this kodack easy share from?   I believe kodack discontinued providing download of that software - so not surprising if you downloaded it from some site that you might have issues from just googling easyshare.

And yes the fsviewer that I linked too would be the one you download... I was just rambling about other options as well.

What Camera do you have btw - I am fairly sure they provide this sort of software.. Is normally crap, just like easyshare was/is..  What about picasa?  This is really easy software to use  http://picasa.google.com/

Not offended, when it comes to downloading free software, Trust but Verify is a good saying.

Good call, that popped in to my head on the way home yesterday.

HEY YOU GUYS:

You're right Budman about KodakEasyShare. I take most of mypictures from my iphone but I do have a Kodak camera I'll use once in a while.

And Yes Jason Stillion and Budman. I did look over picasa. But I don't use Google Plus-- BUT it seems user-friendly so I'll try that second.

Thans for the guide Thrackerzod. I'm pretty sure I used it  while ago and it did work well for me.

In regards to reposting, I don't see how that's a problem. How I am supposed to know from what section it will most likely be read/ answered? That's why I post to BOTH lol

Multiple posting is frowned upon on every forum on the internet... Bad form, creates disjointed threads, not good!! Can get you banned on some forums that are strict.

Now if your talking crossposting and anyone here still or remembers newrooms/usenet for other than download files ;) Then crossposting was ok, because it linked the information together in different sections. Multiposting is bad be it forums or usenet, etc.

Make a logical choice on where to post your question based sections titles, etc. Read some threads in the section, is your question along the same lines?

Software would be the best place for your question IMHO.. Not sure where you multiposted, but as you see the mods merged them. If you happen to put a thread in a wrong section, and it does not seem to get any responses after a day or so.. Message a mod maybe and ask them where they best think this question should go sort of thing.

I do believe you can use picasa without google+ btw.
