Microsoft Loses An Xbox One Exclusive: Capybara's Below Is Coming To Steam, Too

Capybara Games' atmospheric roguelike Below debuted on stage at Microsoft's E3 press conference, but a new trailer confirms that the Xbox One title will be coming to Steam as well.

The new clip features a slow pan from the waters' edge, up a cliff, and inside a caveside tunnel. After descending down a precarious-looking network of stairs, we briefly see a lone figure huddled beside a fire. Stick around past the fade to darkness, and you'll see the figure approach a wall, which has the Steam logo etched onto it. Not a bad way to make an announcement.

To learn more about the game, be sure to read Bryan's in-depth feature. The game will be playable this weekend at PAX East.

I don't really see this as them loosing an exclusive as it still looks like  a console exclusive from what I can see so I doubt they will be too upset by this.

They were originally publishing it which meant true exclusivity, now that they're not publishing it it's open to go elsewhere - Probably more easily Steam first, no doubt PS down the line.

Obviously when you publish something you have complete control over it unless the dev buys you out or there is some other clause.

Many things MS has published recently are on Steam.

Looking back at the past years, many games have been labelled as Xbox- or PS- exclusive, yet have come on one or more PC platforms. I feel like the article just wants to get a few more hits by wording the headline that way.

Yeah it's a pretty terrible title but was the first source for the news I read.

Focusing on the actual news here, it's great more people will get to play it (Y) Let's not turn it into a vs topic.

So is MS publishing either version of the game?

I wouldn't be shocked if MS was still publishing the game on both. Lately, there has been signs of MS starting to push more content to the pc, even willing to put games up on Steam in the process.

Still its nice to see it coming to pc as well. I tend to buy most of my indie games on the pc due to sales. If MS is still publishing, they should consider making this one of the first cross buy games between pc and xbox.

When was this exclusive anyway?  From what I'm seeing it was known to be coming to other platforms in August last year.

Good find.

I think a lot of people assumed because it was published by them it would be exclusive. Looks like it'll be on everything now the timed exclusivity / publisher deal is gone.
