Unisex Dorms Reduce Harassment in Army : Study

Recommended Posts

Mixed-gender dormitories have helped curb sexual harassment in the Norwegian army, the author of a new study said on Monday, refuting long held beliefs on the subject. ?We were very surprised. We had thought these mixed rooms would encourage harassment, or in any case not reduce it,? said Ulla-Britt Lilleaas, co-author of the report ?The Army: the vanguard, rear guard and battlefield of equality.? The two researchers based their findings on interviews with 20 soldiers ? 10 men and 10 women ? as well as with top and middle ranking officers at a garrison with mixed dormitories. The study only found one serious case

I'd be surprised if the biggest argument was ever that sexual harassment would be encouraged. I'd expect more of a worry about other things; whether that be voluntary intimate relationships between barracks-members, or just discomfort by some of the soldiers. The obvious model would be co-ed dorms in universities. It doesn't sound completely 'degenderized' anyway, given that when not in the field they have separate bedrooms.

Way back in the 90's out of necessity our barracks were coed, not that big a deal as they make it seem these days

Hell we had to SHARE a latrine also, including a volunteer to keep guard at the shower entrance because we had communal showers, never a problem, ever

We also shared tents in the field till some stuck up bitch E5 decided to not want to share a tent with men, she got moved to another tent and the rest of us kept sharing as needed

The real reason there's problems is lack of leadership in doing their jobs and letting the standard drop to "in tha hood" levels which is never a good thing, now they're jumping through all kinds of ###### because they didn't do their jobs right the first time

Gender segregation is an outdated concept. Allowing men and women to use the same bathroom or sleeping area doesn't mean that men are suddenly going to turn into rapists or sexual perverts. People of all genders should be treated equally.

I might be wrong, AFAIK, Hitler tried the same thing, 75% women fellows returned home pregnant happily at the time, not because of harassment but because of volunteer testo and oestro pulses, sure time changed human hood evolved a lot to supress to not evolving pulses since then, in this case alliance of Testoestro would rule the dorms, as expected.

In the UK the only shared dorms are the SuperBlocks, where you have your own bathroom to wash in. The older blocks where its a communal bathroom, the entire building has to be one sex. So Women go into Superblocks right away, Men have to go on a list.

The entire Military is ridiculously sexist at an institutional level anyway. An 18 year old Women in the Military here in the UK is held to the same fitness standards a 55 year old man has to meet.

All Militaries do that, is just as bad here in the US, hell didn't the Marines just reduce the number of pullups for Women because supposedly fit Women could not do like 10 or so? Then of course you have the other end of the spectrum, where some morons feel like opening specialized Spec Ops positions to Women will actually work and not lower that standards
