Haggis Veteran Posted April 13, 2014 Veteran Share Posted April 13, 2014 Hi Guys does this look ok to you guys, is there anything i could do better?
+BudMan MVC Posted April 13, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 13, 2014 Your wording is off, for starters where is your router in this setup? Modem is not a router, if this device connected to the cloud is a modem/router combo then its called a "gateway" And would not use the term route for a connection from one switch to another switch. Unless your talking a layer 3 switch that is doing routing between segments? And really you have fiber line that connects to your switch? Or does that connect to your gateway that changes it to ethernet? You have that AP between your modem and switch - is that really your router? And you have an actual "modem" ? Where does it change from public IP to private in this drawing?
Haggis Veteran Posted April 13, 2014 Author Veteran Share Posted April 13, 2014 ok the line comes in, hits the fibre modem, the access point is my router, the router/access point is where it goes from WAN ip to Private IP this is just for my home setup :)
+BudMan MVC Posted April 14, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 14, 2014 That's my point wording is wrong ;) AP is not a "router" So that should be labled "wireless router". And there is not need of mention of "route" to second switch.. Its a given that your switches are connected, if your not "routing" on layer 3 switches then don't use that term. Haggis Veteran Posted April 14, 2014 Author Veteran Share Posted April 14, 2014 ok so fixed the terms etc now as to the actual layout and design of the network could anything be done better
+BudMan MVC Posted April 14, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 14, 2014 Rework the layout of the cables so they don't cross over each other. I take it your fishing for network changes - like what you have 1 network segment and couple of switches.. What do you think you could change there? surreyguy
How are you connecting up/downstairs switches? Are you running a single LAN cable through the house to connect the two? Have you thought about using some "homeplugs" for your needs of connecting 2 floors? It would certainly eliminate any extra cabling.
+Fahim S. MVC Posted April 15, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 15, 2014 Do you have FTTC or FTTH? If the former you don't have fibre coming into the modem, it's copper.
