Jimquistion The Unholy Trinity Of Blind Greedy Bastards

Well done to whoever decided to put auto-play video ads on a site with an auto-play video.

I've never even heard of Clash of Clans.

Feel quite strongly about this one personally but there's not much you can do about it or anything worth arguing about. It'd be like ******* against the wind and the only control you have is not buying the games they sell.

Anyone who actually plays games and appreciates story telling or innovation has long known about this issue. It's nothing new.

Anybody who knows me, knows my thoughts on CoD and my boycott of the series too, but the problems with that series go far beyond the annual releases that Activision spew out. The cookie cutter industry it created was bad enough but it's literally killing the market. CoD is the biggest problem consoles have but not fair to land all the blame on them. Every few years another game will come out and you can almost hear the cogs ticking in the publisher's heads that "we need an answer to Bioshock", "we need an answer to Gears of War" etc. They see the success and they all jump on it, but never even come close to matching it. Then they blame the studios, mass layoffs and hey it's our fault cause we didn't buy it. Rinse repeat.

I would actually welcome a triple A game crash tbh. It feels like the only thing that could flush out the people who don't actually care about the industry to get us back into recovery.

Until then, my money goes to the indies (Y) Because as Jim correctly points out, while XYZ are chasing CoD, everyone else is free to fill the void with real games.

Yeah, at the root of all of this is the consumer.

There are many of us that just don't buy into it, and yet there are even great numbers that will.

So there really is not much you can do outside of controlling what you do with your money. So either these developers/publishers get the message through sharp losses or at least you are saving yourself from the madness that others seem to want to support. At least you will have more money to buy the game that do matter to you.

The indie scene is definitely a reaction to the state of AAA game development. The two could happily coexist though. I don't really think there has to be an apocalypse in the AAA market for things to get better, but I do believe that a 'correction' is in order. That does require mass rejection of the current content out there by gamers.

The interesting thing about indies is that some of them are starting to grow and are very close to AAA status as it is. At some point we will need to re-evaluate what it means to be 'indie' or 'AAA'.
