Microsoft currently has 15 OEM partners for Windows Phone, including two that were announced earlier this month at BUILD, Micromax and Prestigio. Now the company has launched its OEM portal site for Windows Phone, offering any company a chance to register their interest in selling devices that use Microsoft's mobile OS.
The portal website says that that the process begins by registering on the Windows Phone Dev Center system, the same way an app creator does when he or she wants to publish a Windows Phone app. In this case, potential OEM partners register by using the "Company" option. Once that's done, Microsoft will review the application and, if approved, will send over an email later with a request to get additional information about the company.
One thing that any potential future Windows Phone makers will need to have ready is a Qualcomm Reference Design OEM agreement, since all Windows Phone devices are based on Qualcomm processors.
With Microsoft announcing at BUILD last week that it will offer Windows for free to OEM makers for devices that are smaller than nine inches, we should expect to see quite a few more companies announcing their plans to make Windows Phone products in the future.
