Domino?s just replaced its pizza crust with fried chicken

Presenting the latest fast food atrocity

Last December, in Israel, Domino?s introduced a cheese-free pizza after a vocal vegan lobby successfully convinced the company it was what the people wanted. Here in the U.S., what the people apparently wanted was a pizza made with fried chicken instead of dough.

Wish granted. The pizza chain Monday announced its newest menu item: Specialty Chicken (motto: ?Failure is an option?). It?s a ?delicious? combo of sauce, cheese and toppings spread over ?12 bites of lightly breaded, 100 percent whole breast white meat chicken.?

?Our new Specialty Chicken is one of the most creative, innovative menu items we have ever had,? Russell Weiner, Domino?s Pizza chief marketing officer said in a press release. Sorry, hot dog stuffed-crust pizza and pasta bread bowl.

USA Today, which chooses to call it a ?chicken dish with toppings? instead of a pizza, characterizes the launch as an attempt to capitalize on the growing demand for boneless chicken, sales of which are up 11 percent over the past three years. Domino?s has already been selling chicken wings for decades ? next to pizza, said CEO J. Patrick Doyle, they sell more chicken than any other menu item. One industry consultant also points out that consumers tend to think of chicken as ?healthier? than red meat or pizza.

"Proper" pizza is eaten with the hands in slices, which you should know as a pizza "purist".

Or did you forget that pizza is peasant food? ;)

Back OT.  How can they possibly sell this at the same prize as an actual pizza?  There's no way chicken is going to be cheaper than bread dough...

See, this is where you and 85% of Neowin voting in this poll err. I've asked an Italian co-worker of mine, and he agrees - pizza is to be eaten with knife and fork. :shifty:

Just because he's Italian, doesn't make him right.

When it comes to pizza I take his word over that of an Englishman, sorry.

Domino's can replace the crust with horse poop, for all I care.

I've never liked their pizza.

I can buy and make better pizza from the local store.

Just one point, nowhere does Dominos describe this as a pizza. It's chicken with a topping. So all the comments about this not being a proper pizza etc, well you're right, and they're not claiming it is.

.... a vocal vegan lobby

How is chicken vegan ?

It's not, that was referring to the cheese-free version in Israel.  (Cheese-free pizza should be illegal IMO.. go eat a salad.)  The chicken thing is US... which looks like something I'll have to try once.

eh, they sell pasta and other non-pizza items too. I see this as just chicken with cheese and vegetables or whatever on top. It isn't that outrageous.
