Dog goes on tire puncture spree

Recommended Posts

The mystery over who has been slashing tires in a Brampton, Cumbria, neighborhood has been solved. And, no, it wasn't some punk teenagers. ABC reports:

"This is Jess the border collie, who apparently just loves to bite into rubber. So much so, she's punctured the tires of 11 cars in recent weeks."

BBC says a resident set up a CCTV camera and caught the pooch red-pawed. "Apparently it was run over about 18 months ago, and it seems to have a thing against cars."

Hey, we'd probably have it out for cars, too. Daily Mirror reports at first, Cumbria police kindly opted to keep the owners' names anonymous - you know, so they wouldn't be too embarrassed by their misbehaving pup.

"But he has offered to reimburse any car owners for the damage to their vehicles."

But we now know Jess' owners are Jean and Edward Morgan. Daily Mail says upon first reports, officers were confused as to who was behind the tire deflation.

"After spending six months and countless hours studying CCTV police got the lead when it transpired that Jess had been using her daily walk to bite the two nearside tires of cars she came across - causing slow punctures and flat tires by morning."

Jess' owners have promised to keep her on a leash from here on out. And we also suggest some rubbery chew toys.

Dogs have incredibly powerful bites, a tire is nothing to them.

I beg to differ when the things have steel strands in them, as all tyres do.  Unless American ones don't, for some reason?

If a dog tried that over here, it'd lose teeth.

Yeah tires are pretty strong, there's probably more to this story then is being told. It would take a dog awhile to chew through a tire that was inflated if it could at all.

Well clearly tires with steel strands are nothing to a dog, as this took place in Cumbria. I know you go backwards through time the further north you get in the UK, but I think Cumbria is advanced enough for such wizardry.

The dog probably isnt biting into the tread, but the sidewall where no steel belt exists.
