WP8.1 - Stop Xbox Music from changing my MP3s

Recommended Posts

I added a bunch of mp3s from my collection to my phone's SD card and Xbox Music ended up screwing with them instead of just leaving them be. For example I have the album INNOCENCE by Aoi Eir but since Xbox Music has never heard of it it decided it must be the album Innocence from some guy named Luka Bloom instead, replacing the artist and album art for the tracks so that I no longer have Aoi Eir listed as an artist in my collection.

How do I disable this and restore my tracks to display correctly? The metadata for the actual mp3 files is still correct if I connect my phone to my PC and inspect the files. This is very irritating.

Settings > Preferences > Media Info > Off

The default is On and begins to mess up your files the moment you first launch it.

Why does Microsoft do this? This is a serious flaw in their program and has been like this for years, I think even dating back to the days of media player?

They clearly have no desire to fix it as I've seen countless posts over the years raising this very issue. Why can they not just set the default setting to off? :(

This doesn't surprise me, reminds me of how WMP likes to butcher your album art by going and re-sizing it to a tiny size. I don't touch MS music players with a ten foot pole.

Doesn't appear to be there in the WP8.1 app.

It's a crappy default. Almost as annoying as the: sync all my music to Xbox Music cloud on first launch and greedily match non-mainstream Metal bands to random popular music artists that you cannot remove option.

Yeah, that really did my head in. I went to the effort of adding high quality album art to my music and Microsoft decided that WMP should simply overwrite that with horribly low quality album art of its own. Microsoft used to lead the market when it came to media players?WMP was decent back in the day, certainly better than RealPlayer?but now it's just a joke.

It is still the same, hell even better performing than the competitors considering that it uses Media Foundation. Only that feature is crap, on all devices, on all platforms, on all services, everywhere.

Thanks it does, the music data is intact using the old Xbox Music app.

Glad I could help!  :) (Y)

I hope with the quick Xbox Music update schedule they fix these things because the apps are just bad.  Heck I can't even get the first update that went out for it for some reason, store says it's not supported in my market.

Xbox Music is one of the biggest problems with WP. Xbox Music is just atrocious. I'm using Nokia MusicRadio, which isn't that much better. I do not have a separate mp3 player (that I use anymore). I play all my music on my phone.
