MikeChipshop Member Posted April 30, 2014 Member Share Posted April 30, 2014 I dropped Flickr the minute Yahoo bought it. Not because i have anything against Yahoo but, for me at least, i got stuck in a never ending loop of account swaps and verifications to which there seemed no end in sight. Jumped ship and now use 500px.
TAZMINATOR
Yahoo has had what some describe as the biggest data breach in the history of the Internet in their trophy cabinet. Google has had what? One Gmail breach, and few small ones here or there? I think people beleive Google is not secure, purely because of the massive amount of scaremongering by people who seem hell bent on thinking that they can remain anonymous on the Internet. No one is perfect with their servers security / protection. Unless you know what you are doing with your servers which means you are protecting your data that are stored on your server.. Hackers these days can get in and steal the data.. no matter what. As you see what happened to the stores about credit card data breach recently. Such as Target, etc. To me, no one is secure anyway.. I mean https heartbleed recently, data breaches, etc. Want your privacy and/or protected? Stay off the internet, that simple. Besides, I don't care who owns the said products/services, (Flickr, for example), I can use alternative account for the said product/service. That way, I don't care about spam crap. I don't go to their email client. Plus most credit card companies/banks have fraud protection on it.. you have nothing to worry about. Check your statements daily to make sure that you are not affected by the breach. Draconian Guppy 1 Share

I just think that bitch in charge of Yahoo is exactly that. I don't like her, I don't support her, and I think it's well past due that Yahoo just dies. That's personal opinion. As for my data, meh, if it gets taken, it gets taken. No point complaining once its been taken.
Boo Berry
Yahoo's known to be very crappy with security with its services and Yahoo IDs. Hell, there's entire communities dedicated to exploiting Yahoo's services with various known vulnerabilities (some to this day never addressed), e.g. Messenger. The amount of exploits on that alone makes me avoid Yahoo like the plague it is. A lot of it quieted down since their chat died, but still, will NEVER use Yahoo again. francescob 1 Share

Shiranui
I have a Yahoo account, just to join a particular Yahoo group. I can't remember the last time I actually logged into my email account, though. Maybe I'll sign up to Flickr, just to get a little more use out of it. Wow. just logged in. Not a single email in all the years I've had the account, except for an automatically generated "Welcome back!" email. Dick Montage
Why would you cancel a sub to the best online photo storage and display service because you have to make an account with them I have no desire to create an account with them. I manage pretty much everything via my Gmail account.
HawkMan
I have no desire to create an account with them. I manage pretty much everything via my Gmail account. You already have an account with them, it just so happens to use your gmail to log in, but you most certainly have an account with them. As it is there's no other sevrice that's even remotely equal to what flickr is today, 500px is a compeltely different service, it does somewhat the same thing, but they're still completely different. tuckeratlarge
I just wrote a long post about this, but I just deleted it and, you know what... If people don't want flick because of Yahoo - or more likely they're jumping on the bandwagon of hate - then that's their prerogative. Let them do as they please. It's like anything on the internet, a few of the well known commentators/reviewers say something like "Windows 8 is crap" and, bam - people jump on the bandwagon. Whereas 99% of users either don't care or like it. Same with Yahoo. Why you would lump a good service like Flickr with the parent is crazy. But hey, personal choice and all that. LaP
Personally i prefer to log in a yahoo service using a yahoo account. I agree with Torolol one account to rule em all is not a great idea. I'Vre never used the log in using facebook feature of any web site.

Keep arguing semantics. I will no longer be using Flickr, and I don't see why you are so concerned about that.
Ironman273
I have a completely different problem. I have a Yahoo account that I created eons ago just for Flickr then I stopped using it. When the 1TB thing came out I thought it'd be a good time to go back. I forgot my password and the only password recovery they have is to answer your "secret" question. The question they showed I can safely say is not a question I would ever use. I called them but they basically shrugged their shoulders. Nothing they could do. +LogicalApex MVC Posted August 3, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 3, 2014 Yeah, Yahoo isn't getting my details just so their lax security can pass them on to every spammer on the planet. What's a good alternative? If you're sharing login information among sites hoping that any of them have reasonable security then you're putting yourself at grave risk. Grab a copy of KeePass, or any secure password manager, and ensure that you never give anything to hackers that may be of any use beyond that one site. TAZMINATOR
Thing is I still have albums on that old account that I can't access. Link the photos along with new one... like this: my new flickr album | my old flickr album and on your page, explain about the old account to the users about unable to recover the password. so they will understand. Or you can grab photos from your old album and upload into the new one.

Malisk
I already have a Flickr account, so no worries here. I wouldn't have doubted to get one if not. I find it a useful and nice platform for amateur photographers, with a huge community. I also use it as a free 1 TB photo host for my blog. Flickr supports direct image links as well as a photo gallery feature that can be embedded in blogs.

I wanted to download the photos so I can put it on my NAS and host them somewhere for friends and family to view. I mean about the linking album... if your friends/family want to see your old album... you can send them a old link...(or add links on your blog/website) for example: flickr.com/youroldusername then and add the new album link like this: flickr.com/yournewusername The old album, don't worry about the login, just view the photos like public.. save the photos onto your system as long as you don't have them as private. If you have a link to your old album and I will grab photos out and send them to you if you want me to. Ironman273 1 Share
