whaat ? In europe everyone is quite well aware of the difference between Canada and USA. we consider Canadians somewhat civilized.

Heh, you need to meet the Winnipeggers. Not all of them but man some can be greedy, pushy and rude. The ones I've run across come down from Canada and pillage the stores in Grand Forks, ND for the cheaper costs and drive back across the border.

Lets just clear up one thing.

It's not "Ice Hockey", it's just Hockey. It's not "Field Football" or "Field Cricket".. Hell even in Tennis where they DO change surfaces it's still just called Tennis.

No, we aren't, cause there is no such thing as "America" apart for the shortened name of the United States of America.

There is no "America" continent, it's North America, or South America. At no point is one of both of those either just "America".

Uh oh. Wrong on both counts. 0/2.

HEY! THATS MY HOME YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!

And you're right. We are horrible people. This city is a bunch of self-inflated assholes.

Well, we don't generally count the French Canadians as civilized, coz they're French. :p

Some countries call them the America's and some North/South so there's no right and wrong answer. Native English speaking countries 99.9% of the time mean USA when they say America or American but that doesn't apply to every country/language. Having universally agreed upon main uses of words would make things more simple but isn't going to happen. If I was in a Spanish forum I wouldn't refer to myself as just "American" but there is very very little confusion over what I mean when I say American on an English forum. It's ok that words are used differently in different languages/countries.

Please explain how observing a speed limit is dangerous. Is it in the same logical realm as speeding has no bearing on road accidents?

Tell the next cop who pulls you over for speeding that you're exceeding the limit because it is safer and see his/her reaction.

Because safety and efficiency are but one side of the coin, practicality the other.  To play this 'pure' math game is stupid on an unforeseeable event or we'd all be driving 25km everywhere.  The ones that jump to that blame card, without accounting for if science or politics SET that limit as the only factor that matters, are quite suspect.  Except in cases of gross negligence, the driver isn't expected to account for phantoms in the night in regards to our speed - driving is a risk.  Seems too many of you women who latch onto zomgz speed! alone forget that.

Most driving clubs agree on the 85% rule, and so do many cops.  The rest are just working the highway for revenue or, like you, playing gotcha games.  Which makes me think its a cultural thing - and unless your limits are on the high end, you all seem far too comfortable bowing to such a flimsy authority.  I never said it was safer, I said its inevitable.  To place an arbitrary limit and unduly give it priority on how you can navigate a situation, like merging/passing, is bad advice.  That whole saying about being dead right.

I may get a ticket a penalty, not a crime - it doesn't matter what I say or what his reaction is.  If he takes the time to pull me over, only a set of tits gets a warning.  You guys are the ones that are hollering for manslaughter over 10km/hr.  Pretty big ####ing difference.  If you think that makes you civilized, then have fun with that.

Can anyone convert this drivel into something human-readable?

He saying that driving 10km over is ok, because it doesn't matter if you barely manage to not hit something or hit it at 50kmh as long as you save those 20 seconds that driving 10km over will save you. Provided you don't catch up to anyone, cause then you're back to zero. Speeding is absolutely pointless and only serves to satisfy the drivers need to drive fast.

Which still belies your base assumptions about posted limits in regards to who is setting them and how.

What exactly would you hold her guilty for?  How does violation of the limit in your absolutist view play out if she was only doing 1km over?

For the record, she wasn't doing 1 km over, she was doing an "admitted" 10km over, which probably means more.

This means if she hit them at 50kmh (lethal) she could have just managed to stop for them if she hadn't been speeding. she also admitted(by filing a lawsuit) that it was a bad road not suited for the speed... WELL THEN SLOW THE F DOWN!

Also what absolutist views ? have have repeatedly stated she might not be at fault for hitting them, but she is at fault for killing one and seriously injuring another by driving recklessly on a road she admits isn't good enough for the speed it's listed at(and she was going significantly faster), with rain and darkness further reducing visibility and safety of driving on the road.

I have been ticketed in B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan for going 10kph over the speed limit and in Saskatchewan for going 10 mph over when we used the standard system. and it does make a difference in stopping distance, had she been going the speed limit she may well have seen them.
