Just bought 05 Smart Fortwo, Loving it.

Not to many people drive the Smart Car here in Canada because of the longer and snow heavy winters, but I picked up one the other day. After 4 days of driving, I can say they are awesome to drive. Not at all what most people perceive it to be. To be specific, the model I got was a 2005 Smart Fortwo CDI Pulse, full load including the heated cloth seats. Of course, the first point I need to mention is the fuel economy. I picked out the diesel in particular since its about 2X better then its gas version. Since I drive reasonable (never speed and never jack-rabbit start) I get even better then most drivers. Estimating about 3litres/100km most of the time on hiway, although in the city it burns twice that amount. In the last 4 days, I filled up the 22 litre tank and was able to pull 500+ km's out of each tank. inside there is plenty of room for two (obvious by the model name FORTWO) and has enough power to satisfy me since i am not a racer or speedster. The thing is amazing easy to park since its only as long as most large trucks are wide. :)

I know the diesel version was never sold in the US and only sold for 2 years in Canada. Anyone from here in neowin (most likely European members) have a Fortwo? I wish they sold the ForFour here, I would buy that one in a flash.

The Smart ForFour is closely related to the Mitsubishi Colt. Not sure if they sold that there?

Official figures for the Fortwo in the UK (in case anyone is interest) are:

Urban mpg 83.1

Extra Urban mpg 88.3

Average mpg 85.6 mpg

Which is pretty impressive but then it is only a 0.8l diesel engine with 45hp but as you say, if you don't need the power then its not a problem and its super light.

We had 2x Citroen C2's for the longest time, but now we have an Auris Hybrid and a Volvo S40. Once our little dude doesn't need a car seat I might get an Abarth Esseesse.
