Three Things You Must Know About PS4's Evolved FPS Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

It?s being made for the PlayStation 4 first and foremost
As was the case with last year?s disappointing doggy-focused affair, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will release on both the PlayStation 4 and the ageing PlayStation 3. However, the publisher promises that this cross-generation compatibility will not negatively impede the next-gen version of the game, as it?s being built with Sony?s latest system in mind. This means that developer Sledgehammer Games ? Dead Space director Glen Schofield?s new studio ? has been given the freedom to push the format to its limits, and this is evidenced by the escapade?s first trailer, which shows a real step forward for the franchise in the visuals department.

It could have a story that you actually care about

In a tip of the hat to Metal Gear Solid, the story will focus on Private Military Corporations, which already represent a substantial sum of the globe?s outsourced defence expenditure. Spacey will play the founder and president of a fictional faction named the Atlas Corporation, making him one of the most powerful men on the planet. And judging by his speech in the title?s first trailer, he doesn?t appear to agree with the ideals of a democracy, stressing that people want boundaries and rules set by a strong leader. We?re going to assume that you?ll start out as a grunt working for the sinister suit, before having an epiphany and fighting against the army that you once represented. Alright, it?s not exactly original, but the acting already appears to be top-notch, so we?re onboard.

Its future focus will unlock new gameplay possibilities

Spliced between footage of Kevin Spacey?s rousing monologue, the video shows rocket boots, infrared grenades, hover bikes, spider tanks, magnetic climbing gloves, advanced armour types, and even mech suits like the ones found in Respawn Entertainment?s shooter. It?s unclear which of these toys will be available in multiplayer, but Activision has promised that the new setting will unlock fresh gameplay innovations, both online and offline. It?s safe to assume, then, that there?ll be a greater sense of verticality in this new instalment, with all-new layers such as unique ammunition types bringing a different wrinkle to the series? familiar formula.

Its good to know that the ps3 will not hold back the ps4 version.

It's interesting to see what games can do when not being held back by last gen. It's why Im interested in how Assassins Creed: Unity will be, seeing as its Nextgen only.

I don't buy it for one second.  If it has a PS3 version then they're almost certainly going to make sure things they do can scale back to the PS3's capabilities.  That's going to place SOME limits on what they do that wouldn't be there if there wasn't going to be a PS3 version at all.  This reads as PR hype to me, nothing more.

I agree, cant do 100%. However I do think if the trailer is accurate to final gameplay, they've certainly done a better job of it than Ghosts did. That game did not look a single shred better on next-gen.

First CoD I have been excited for since MW2. Bring it on! :D

Same, hopefully they show more videos and gameplay at E3 :)

I'm torn. On the one hand, it's another CoD. I agree with the majority that they've overdone it. I stopped at Black Ops 1, playing the coop survival in MW3 with a friend wasn't bad but wasn't enough to get me to buy the game.

On the other hand, Kevin Spacey being involved with this has me interested. I'm a MGS fan as well, so the story of PMCs is something I can get in to.

I'm not fussed about whether it was made specifically for the next-gen consoles or not. If you're just upping the graphics and not doing anything for the story or gameplay, I won't bother. With any luck, Sledgehammer Games have a similar mentality.

Looks like it will contain the same tired gameplay we've had for the last 7 or 8 years now. Slightly better graphics aren't going to change that.

It's an FPS? What do you expect?

Not the same rehashed game year after year with very minor changes to it.

No no, i totally agree with that. The reason i've not enjoyed a COD game since Blops but it was an honest question, what would you want to see in a new FPS that makes it something new, enjoyable but still maintain the integrity of being an FPS?

The thing is, usually developers don't have the money and development time to be scaling games properly to platforms and use the past-gen as a baseline and build up from there. On the other hand here, Activision will be pumping millions into this and given the extended time given with the added developer and business sense of it, It will be a decent next-gen version.

This CoD interests me quite a fair wack.

I haven't allowed a single CoD on my interest radar since MW2, they just really bored me. This however from the trailer got my attention, whilst they may not be doing anything new for FPS, for CoD it does look like they are adding a few new gameplays, It reminded me a lot of G.R.A.W which I liked a lot, so add a nice co-op story with a blend of GRAW and CoD and it might actually get me back into the CoD universe

Now I need to shower because I feel dirty admitting that

I don't think I have a good enough imagination to answer that question.

I dunno, I think it's kind of sad they've went got Kevin Spacey involved. I just get the impression they are just trying to score points by getting the actor from a hit TV show & have him, at least from the trailer, seem similar in character. But it could still workout well.

Purely talking about single-player, I actually find alot of FPS games flat out fail to create competent, interesting & fun first person shootin' gameplay. I have always felt CODs FPS gameplay is pretty shallow in terms of level design & A.I. & just the general shooting too. I mean it's usually just a bunch of enemies all shooting at the player at the same time, I find it usually just feels sloppy & silly.

I was working with the idea that Kevin Spacey accepted the role, therefore there must be something to it. Although I can see how the cut-throat whip compares to the head of a PMC. (Y)

Yea, that's a point. I am certainly interested to see how it plays out.

I don't think this is true at all.  Devs spend development time making games scale on any game that's released on PC as well as consoles (unless it's an atrocious PC port).  Only console-only games don't need to scale, and even they they often have to scale between consoles (especially if they want to support the Wii/Wii U) so really just single console exclusives can avoid the hassle of scaling.  Those are pretty rare these days.  True "next-gen" games are those that are engineered from the ground up to use more than 2GB of RAM (the effective limit on a 32 bit system) among other things and aren't going to run on a 32bit OS PC let alone a Xbox 360 or PS3.  That doesn't mean this game isn't going to be good.  There is more to a good game than fancy specs and this could still be an outstanding game.  I'm sure it will also look better than previous versions but I don't believe for one second that the fact that it runs on old consoles will not negatively impede the next-gen version in any way.  Some trade-offs will have to be made that wouldn't if it was next-gen only.

You really think a rehashed cash cow like this would be just on the PS?

It is multiplatform the article never says it is PS4 exclusive, the article even says it is multiplatform.

Article title refers to the fact that the game was built for the PS4 and then would be scaled back to accommodate the previous-gen consoles. Rather than being built on previous-gen consoles and then being scaled up which means it is going to look prettier than the previous CODs.

I am glad they are developing this for the PS4 before they develop it for the PS3 version. I have to wonder how they will scale back the PS3 version.
