Nice!

I have too many 1TB drives and have strongly considered consolidation.

Yes, I had 4 1TB drives and a 256GB SSD. I just consolidated and now I have one 3TB, one 1TB drive, and a 256GB . Five drives to three. Further consolidation will be in the works soon.

Would a red drive be good for the following uses?

Storing files, videos (lots of videos), pictures etc

Watching videos almost 24/7 from that drive - The computer is on 24/7 and I constantly play videos when on it

Possibly streaming videos from that drive over a local network

The drive(s) would be in a standard desktop PC

How are they compared to the Green drive?

Will the red drives last a long time?

Sorry to thread jack!

Nice. Most silent drive I've ever had.

Mine is horrible, spins up to 100% for 2-3 seconds everytime I close a tab on Chrome

*snip*

A perfect fit to go with my TS-470. 16TB of space :o

HOW MUCH. Been looking into picking these up when they are affordable. I see $180-184 is the cheapest. I got some quotes for business through work and Got a quote of $162. I was expecting better because we order 60-100 hard drives a month and thats the lowest any of the companies contacted could go. They all said we were getting them at cost. But I was able to pick up some normal consumer 4Ts for 130-140. Ordered 60.

I just want 5 of these. 1 to backup the 4 in case one fails. I see you dont have a spare? Are you just going to hold out for warranty when one fails?

There designed for NAS units.  Just about any drive is fine for what you want.  The Green drives are slower than normal drives, but for what you want, they should be fine.

This doesn't sound like a drive issue...

Likely, Chrome pages the tab data to disk and needs to access it when you close the tab (maybe to delete something?)... The drive has to spin up when told it needs to actually do something.

Maybe I'm the odd one out but I don't see the perpetual need to have the enormous amount of space some folks around here strive for

500GB is way more than I'd ever need. Just as an example.

Then again, I don't store a lot of music/pictures. Mostly just application coding.

Among all the files someone can have, I have double or triple backups of everything I have. I even did an image of my SSD 1 hour ago, forgot to do it since I installed a new 512Gb ssd and installed Win 8.1 Pro. I never reinstalled Windows 7 since it was released. It was time to go to Windows 8.1 with my 15$ key , for those that remember that special deal.

With classic shell, everything is where I need it to be.

I don't think mines broken. I'm just bitterly and jealousy complaining about his quiet drive.

You somehow managed to take a gif of my face while reading this thread. And I don't have a webcam.

I am frightened and confused.
