Xbox One Power Brick - Loose Cord?

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

Just wanted to test the water really.

I've had my Xbox One for a few weeks now, really happy no issues as such. However I noticed when setting it up, that the power cable doesn't really sit firmly into the power brick, in fact it's quite loose. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the inside of the power brick or the cable.

To clarify, the connection on the back of the console is fine, the loose part is the plug on the brick.
Does anyone else have this?

Thanks.

It's probably just the leaf springs inside the kettle lead. The connector on the Xbox One doesn't have an Earth pin for extra snug fit security like a PC, so that's the reason it wiggles a little, the PSU's in the 360 and One use floating point grounds (internal ground circuitry in the PSU) so they don't use the lead's Earth to the mains socket.

EDIT: Mine does wiggle up and down a bit but that is definitely cause of the missing Earth, so you're fine, it isn't a defect :) It still takes quite a pull to pull it out.

First I've heard of issues with the X1 but it was certainly an issue with some Xbox 360 power bricks. They're supposed to be a tight fit and quite tough to separate.

What colour does the LED show?

Best to contact MS ASAP before it becomes a bigger problem later. They replaced 360 PSUs but they were quite costly if out of warranty ($150 IIRC?).

Noticed this as well, it never seems to go all the way in and doesn't feel too secure in there - no perversion intended with that comment. It's normal. As Andrew said, so long as the lights are solid white/orange with no flickering, you're good. The connection to the power brick does feel a little spongy, but many electronics have this. Of course if the prongs are half out and you feel something blocking insertion (hmmm), then call the doctor, i mean MS support. But i think what you have is normal. She's just built that way :blushing:

The plug point should not be loose, that goes for all electronics equipment. But as the power cable is the female plug for the power brick it doesn't become an electrical hazard if it falls off.

But as others have said call MS and start a warranty return for the powerbrick. It is very unlikely but the loose connection could cause more damage to the system.

Stick a couple of layers of electrical insulation tape around the end of the kettle lead, that'll make it nice and snug :D
