Anyone use DollarShaveClub?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use this service? I'm on this kick about how much razors cost me a month and I just found out about this site today. I have been using the single blade disposable razors for years and they're so expensive. Last week I purchased a Mach3 with 15 blades, but it was pretty expensive. I did find a video on youtube where a guy said to run your razor up and down a pair of jeans 20 times and it will sharpen the blade. He stated that you should get months out of one blade using that trick. People posted in the comments stating that it really works so I want to try it. But this site DollarShaveClub sounds like a no brainer. Get 4 razors a month for 6 bucks. I might even throw in a One Wipe Charlie while I'm at it :) Does anyone use this service?

I was thinking about it, but ultimately decided to buy a classic safety razor and blades. The safety razor is a bit expensive up-front, but once you learn how to use it, you get a really close shave, and from there, it's extremely cheap. I mean, I bought a 100-pk. of blades on Amazon for $5. That was over a year ago, and I've still more than half left.

I almost signed up until someone pointed out that they just use Dorco brand razors, which you can buy directly from Dorco anyway. I bought a bunch for like $40 2 years ago and I still have a lot left.

I use one of these. Edwin Jagger double edge safety razor
I get a 10 pack of blades for ?1.30
A single blade gives about 2 weeks shaves. Each side, flip and each side again. Don't even have to trim if hair gets long either.

By far the best shaving experience I've had. I'll never go back to the over priced disposable razors.

Ignore the crap he does, you can just shave with regular saving foam from a can with just a quick wash of the stubble, just as you would with a throw away.

Wow, I feel like an idiot that I've never heard of a safety razor. I just watched one video where the guy made it seem like it was safer to use a chainsaw than one of these safety razors :) He said it's the only way to shave, but you have to be careful. It takes him 10 minutes to shave! I shave in 3 minutes and I'm done. I did like the brush this guy used as it put the shaving gel on evenly. I think I put on half a can each time I shave. You learn something new every day.

lol Safety razors aren't that bad at all, at least not with a quality tool, such as the Edwin Jagger, or Merkur.

Most of the YouTube videos are about showing you how well they shave while the guys talk to you. This makes the shave seem long and hard to do. I can shave faster with my Edwin jagger as I could with a Gillette Mach 3 turbo.

The problem is, once you start to go down the route of safety razors you start to buy the rest of the quality components to go along with it. The brush the guy was using probably wasn't using shaving gel, but rather a bar of shaving soap. You create a proper lather that's creamy and actually good for your skin. While this does take a little extra time, along with hot towels, etc you'll probably end up doing it since it's quite enjoyable rather then just a chore to get out the way.

However,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHUvk-aOFrM this guy tells it how you'd be shaving.

Well after watching tons of videos I purchased the Edwin Jagger DE89l. I even purchased the cool little chrome stand with the brush and the Proraso Shaving Soap. The blades are so cheap. Thanks for all the info guys.

Yeah I just started the other day after seeing someone mention wet shaving, and I started looking it up and in the end I got a Merkur 34C with a badger brush, etc. So much better than multi-blade!

I went with a beard, cheapest investment ever, if I need anything more than a simple trim, I'll let my barber deal with it when I get my hair cut

I also am old school with an Edwin Jagger. 10 bucks or less for 100 blades is way better than the Gilette crap and even dollar shave club.

I use a cordless electric. I spend less in the long run, even though the shave isn't as close as a blade.

Same. If there are any stubborn heads the shaver misses, in comes the tweezer

Did you try it yet... Need a skin graft or was it ok?

haha, the first time I was a bloody mess on my neck. I tried experimenting with the different directions, but my neck doesn't like any direction other than up. I shaved 3 times this week and last night there was barely any blood at all :)

This started out as just trying to save some money, but it's also become a time of relaxation. I throw on some easy listening music and take my time shaving. It's actually been pretty enjoyable. I'm sure down the road it will be more like "hurry up and get this crap over with" but right I actually look forward to shaving. There are some great youtube videos out there on shaving.

I joined dollar shave club for 1 month then found out that I could save more money by buying directly from dorco. So far I'm liking the shave "have the 6 blade with trimmer".
